Running hard for 26 miles is a health risk if your just a common jogger. The fact is that more have avoided the grim reaper from running than those who have induced it.

you know what happened to the first guy who finished a marathon?
when he got to Rome he collapsed and died

Things like this aren't uncommon in many highly trained athletes. If someone falls over dead running a marathon though, it seems everyone is ready to jump on the idea that, "he was an idiot, probably never trained, steroids" or choose any other variety of assumptions. Things like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myocardial disarray, assymetric septal hypertrophy and a number of other left ventricle abnormalities that cause sudden cardiac death in athletes.
