Title: Obama's Grandmother dies
Post by: CQ on November 03, 2008, 01:36:56 PM
How terrible :'(

Wish she could have made it a bit longer, just to see him to get in

Really is not cool, like 40 hrs more she would have seen him get in.

Assuming he wins tomorrow, it defines the term bittersweet.

Man that is bad timing  :'(  That has to be rough considering his grandparents were his primary parental figures growing up...  One good thing you can say about him bieng Christian is that he def believes she will be smiling down on him tomorrow whatever happens.

Tough loss.  Too bad she couldn't make it to Wednesday (assuming he wins).

Splendid timing on the part of those heartless fvcks at the Republican National Committee

RNC Hits Obama For Visit To Sick Grandmother
November 3, 2008 02:16 PM

Leaving no potential avenue of attack unexplored, the Republican National Committee has decided to bash Barack Obama over his October visit to see his ailing grandmother in Hawaii.

Of course the visit itself is not being criticized, but rather the way the campaign paid for the nominee's unscheduled detour. On Monday afternoon, the RNC blasted out a complaint from the California Republican Party charging that "Obama for America violated federal law by converting its campaign funds to Senator Obama's personal use" for the trip. That proposed issue for the FEC to investigate is one of five violations alleged by California Republicans in their complaint (which you can read in its entirety here).

"Senator Obama recently traveled to Hawaii to visit his sick grandmother. This was the right thing for any grandson to do -- at his own expense -- but it was not travel that his campaign may fund," said California Republican Chairman Ron Nehring in a statement Monday.

Hey...  my grandma died a couple of weeks ago...  true story...  she was 94.  She was a hoot and I loved her and spent quite a bit of time with her in the weeks leading up to her death.

So if McCain wins tomorrow, that would go quite a long ways towards consoling me.  So show a little love, people.

Thanks and much obliged. :)

My condolences to you

Thanks...  she really did pass away a couple of weeks ago and I really did love her and we were close...  but ya know what...  we should all be so lucky to live that long and go when we're damn good and ready to.  And believe me, she was ready.  "Tired of livin, fear'd of dyin," that was her catchphrase towards the end.  She and grandpa had been married for 72 years when he passed away this past June, and after he was gone she just wanted to be with him again, which I believe they are.  So thank you for your sentiments.

As far as a McCain win consoling me...  LOL, I might have been being a bit of a smartass.  And in all seriousness, whoever wins I will support them and I really mean that.  I'm not gonna spend the next four years bitching if my guy doesn't win.  And I don't think Obama is the devil or anything.  Nuff said about that.

Awesome post.  My condolences to you.

My uncle, who taught me to play guitar 25 years ago, is having triple bypass surgery on Wednesday, after having his 3rd heart attack yesterday.  I care way more about the outcome of his surgery than I do this silly election.

Nice post and attitude. 72 years marriage! That's great.

It is good to look on the brightside, due to circumstances all my grandparents were dead by time I was 10, so I always consider those who even had grandparents as adults to be blessed in some way, although not negating your loss.

Is why I rag on my stepdaughter to appreciate my parents [which she does actually, I just still nag ;D] as she is lucky to have 2 grandparents who think the sun rises and sets on her.

Thanks, and sorry, didn't mean to make this thread all about me...  and I hope my grandma will forgive me for using her good name for political gain.  And I'm sorry about Obama's grandma too...  heckuva time for that to happen but not much you can do about that...  ok, nuff said!

Timing is worse then it appears - they put that out a few hours after she died. Wonder how quickly they are scrambling to smooth that....

That's some sad shit right there.

Yeah it is, I posted and told them they were disgusting. I encourage anyone else to take 2 mins to do the same.

Sad thing is the admin is "banning" people for comments that aren't even bad, while stuff like that stays. One person says it was the best news he heard all day. Really horrible, just truly horrible that people would say something like that.

May she rest in peace. She raised a man, who even though I don't agree with his politics, may very well change the world.

You think it's worse than what some of the posters here say about John McCain? May I remind you that Senator McCain is a well respected senator who is generally respected by both parties and has been for years. Yet because he is white and is preceding Bush as the republican nominee people treat him like a pos on here. It makes me sick.

Have you been reading this board? People sit on here for 12 hours straight bashing the guy. If you like Obama so much, talk about him. Show some respect for a man who has spent a lifetime serving his country.

Will Madelyn Dunham’s Vote Count?

By Eli Sanders
I was talking with a coworker earlier today about how sad it was for Barack Obama’s grandmother to have died on the day before the election. My coworker took the sadness one step further, wondering if Madelyn Dunham’s vote (she voted by early absentee ballot) would now not be counted.

Not knowing the answer, I called the Office of Elections in Hawaii. Kevin Cronin, chief election officer for the state, just got back to me. Here’s what he said:

Ms. Dunham’s absentee mail ballot was received and reviewed under the Hawaii standards for processing absentee mail ballots… She was alive at that time. Her ballot will be opened tomorrow, and it will be counted in the same way that all absentee voters would be treated under our law.

The key point appears to be that Ms. Dunham was alive at the time her absentee ballot was received and reviewed, and that it met the standards for review at that time.

Madelyn Dunham’s vote will count, even if she is not here to learn the final tally.

drama queen much?  Yea I've read the board and it is not common to have that kind of bashing of McCain...  I'll tell you what, there is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't allow people to accuse McCain of timing his mother's death if she had been the one to go.  Not cool...  I'm not sure what you think is that bad we've said about McCain, that's he to old?  That an intelligence officer and other pow advocates have come down hard on McCain's militiary record?  What is the drama danielson?  I've seen the shit fly everywhere, Obama has gotten his fair share, Palin, Biden and it's stupid to exempt McCain because he was a POW...

people have been bashing (rightfully) sarah palin for sure, but not so much john mccain. there has been twice as much obama bashing as mccain, and pretty much noone is bashing mccain himself but rather politically, unlike obama where all these douches are smearing his character left and right. i despise Plain but dont think badly of john mccain, i only disagree with his politics. meanwhile people arent even attacking obamas politics, just the man himself.

RIP.  At least she had a great long life and Barrack got to be with his grandmother into his late 40s.

People on both sides are nasty.  The attacks on Palin and McCain have over all probably been worse than attacks on Obama/Biden in this campaign.  As always, there are idiots on both sides.  We need to do better to avoid the bullshit fringe criticizms on this board.
