So much for the increased voting.
http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/009959.html
By the way his numbers are almost the same as Bush's in 2004.
One financial meltdown and people turn off of politics.
That cost McCain more then anything else.

bush won by 3% in 2004.
Obama won by 6%.

Wow. The projections were way off. I expected many more voters. Looks like a lot of people stayed home again. :-\
-
Yeah a 3% shift on who wanted what....not a huge increase. He didn't win by a landslide and the Repubs can block the worst of the nutbaggery in Congress.....

The youth vote never turns out.
It looks like much of mccain's base took the day off.

Repub voting was down 10%...across the board.

that makes sense. I wonder what part of it didn't show up.
The far-right religions base, turned off by mccain's history?
The moderate repub base (many of whom voted libertarian) who were turned off by palin's extreme religious beliefs?
-
Total vote 240 not percentage.
Obama has 62,900,000
Bush was at 62,100,000
A 1% increase
The US population has increased from 293,000,000 to 305,000,000
a 4% increase

This will decide Palin's future.
If the hardcore Repubs came out despite McCain then she is done.
However if the Moderates didn't show up then she has a chance.
Odds are this isn't the last of Palin.

Look at the numbers they are post on drudge and CNN.
Less people voted.
So much for enfranchising more people
ad hominem doesn't make it less true.

Voter turnout of 63% is lower than '04 election
By Mike Gordon
Advertiser Staff Writer
Despite the historic presidential campaign, voter turnout in Hawai'i fell below the last presidential election in 2004.
The state Office of Elections reported that 63.1 percent of registered voters cast ballots with most of the votes counted last night, compared with 67 percent four years ago.
The lower voter turnout was a surprise given the attention to Hawai'i-born U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign. Democrats and Republicans had predicted that turnout would be higher than in 2004.

What you guys are ignoring is that 04 was considered an important election and voter turnout increased dramatically from the previous election. In 2000, there were about 100, million votes cast compared to about 120 million in 2004.
On top of the war, there was the gay marriage ban which galvanized the republican base. There was no huge issue pushing reluctant voters to the polls and the right base simply was not thrilled with McCain.

We have more American voters here then islanders - like 50% of our workforce is American and for what it's worth our news is reporting very high numbers voting. Was the first year I ever saw any election hubbah happen here - signs out, bumper stickers, groups fomed, even a rally so I believe that easily.
Interesting, as most of the Americans here would be easily over $250k, in fact they are not allowed to bring their wives if they aren't making that much so I know this, but it was Obama-ville here. I think the Americans here aren't that representative of the general electorate.

Palin's future? bwahahaha
She'll write a book and have a talk show on FOX. That's about it.
-
She is not going anywhere.
The more the democrats and the media demagogue her, the better her chances look.
Republicans like an underdog and she did what she needed to do.
She brought money and social conservatives out.
That group hated McCain.
McCain lost the independents that he was supposed to be a natural for.

In a speech today Bush said "people turned out to vote in record numbers."

Really,
cnn votes 2004 - 121480013
cnn votes 2008 - 120758282 with 98% of polls reported as of today.
2004-41.5% of total population voted
2008-40.4% of the total population voted

Doubtful. The republicans are going to do some regrouping. She has too much negative baggage. There won't be a place for her. The excitement for her was not actually for her, it was against Obama... and it didn't work. She done. Move on.
-
I think its great when the same people who call Bush a stupid monkey quote something he said as fact. Good times.

While I agree she has a lot of negative baggage, I dont think she is done. 4 years is a long ass time and I also dont agree that the excitement was agaisnt Obama. I think she genuienly excited people before her Couric disasters.
-
There wasn't really any "there" there to get excited about. She was unknown, she hadn't done any interviews, etc. She was fresh face who supporters hoped would have the youthful charisma of Obama. It didn't pan out that way and, in typical conservative fashion, the base blamed her disastrous missteps on the liberal media. In all actuality, they knew what the deal was, though. She was just woefully unqualified. She does not have the brains or the gravity to hold the office of the vp, much less the potus.

She was more popular on the stump then McCain and always pulled in larger crowds.
She also brought in most of the money, which McCain was lacking.
McCain's team was absolutely brutal to her.
They didn't let her speak unless they were his talking points and when she did finally start standing up for herself and speaking to the media in the last 2 weeks in the campaign she was called a rogue or a diva.
She is going to have withstand months of this crap, but if she gets the right team around her and there are many good republican advisers that support her, she will be fine.
In the end McCain was running for president and lost not her and most republicans see it that way.

Repub voting was down 10%...across the board.
This sounds like the most likely cause. People who would've voted Republican knew they were backing a loser, so why bother.
There were a ton of first-time voters, though.

I agree with you for the most part. But you said it was more agaisnt Obama rather than genuine excitement for her and I disagree. There was genuine excitement for her until her several missteps and then the excitement died down considerable. I think there is a large number of conservatives that would be willing to give her another look in a few years however to see if she has grown.

I posted this already but was ignored> :'(
Comparing this election to 2004 is sort of a false comparison because the 2004 election rate was so elevated. 20 million more voters voted in 2004 than in 2000. That election was a true nail biter and people felt there was more at stake.
2008 numbers were pretty close to 2004.

I didn't "quote it as fact" you dumbass bastard. I was simply letting you know what GWB said.
