Not really.
I rather say she's acting quite populist and cynical, knowing that if the companies are saved it will ooze patriotism from her and her party and give them a tremendous popularity.
If they go down, at least she tried. And they can always blame Bush for not raising gas taxes or doing other things earlier on to get the companies to make efficient, competitive cars.

That was only suppose to go to financial institutions, now it's being used for other businesses. What happened to all the transparency they promised?

Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve is refusing to identify the recipients of almost $2 trillion of emergency loans from American taxpayers or the troubled assets the central bank is accepting as collateral.

Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said in September they would comply with congressional demands for transparency in a $700 billion bailout of the banking system. Two months later, as the Fed lends far more than that in separate rescue programs that didn't require approval by Congress, Americans have no idea where their money is going or what securities the banks are pledging in return.

"Banks oppose any release of information because it might signal weakness and spur short-selling or a run by depositors, said Scott Talbott, senior vice president of government affairs for the Financial Services Roundtable, a Washington trade group."

Why use resources, (financial/manpower, etc..) to prop up shitty managed companies when we could be using resources to help successful businesses stay successful?

Bullshit, we can bailout everyone.  Who's next in line?  The auto industry can file bankrupcy.  1 auto maker may be forced out or forced to merge.  There will be temporary job losses, but it will rebound because we need vehicles.

The auto industry in this country needs an overhaul.  The auto unions are ridiculous and making it very difficult to compete in the industry.  We make far too many gas guzzling SUVs.  Its about time the auto industry restructures to compete in 2009.

it's funny that all the people who cried 'obama is a socialist!' because he wanted to give $700 back to working Americans, are silent as we give OVER TWO TRILLION DOLLARS to companies who can't run efficiently.

Im not defedning anyone but if you think Obama is going to slow this lending program, yuo're crazy. He's already pushing for "a big 3 bailout" and he's not even in office yet. Nothings gonna change.

I agree to some extent 240.  McCain and obama both backed big bailouts and gov intervention.  Sometimes you need to let a company fail in order to resurect itself in new form.  The excessive power of the unions and their demands are f-cking the auto industry in this country.  The cost of union grievances, labor disputes, excessive union member benefits, member dues and wages are disgusting.
Unions were started to protect the worker from horrible conditions and greedy employers but now that we have different labor practices, we need the unions to change as well.
