Title: Heart Rate during heavy lifting
Post by: dyslexic on November 13, 2008, 08:05:40 PM
How high or what percentage of MHR do you think a powerlifter would reach during a lift? I understand it is relative to age, genetics, Valsalva, etc.

Some folks dispute that anaerobic energy doesnt push MHR. I disagree. In my thinking, once you have reached the status of "anaerobic" you should already be around 90% of Max.

Its interesting to see runners think that they are the only ones who can get their heart rate going.

I lifted with HR monitor a while ago.

Bench, BB rows etc. Made my HR go like 75% of max.
Squats around 85% and longish ( but heavy) DeadLift set around 90%.
( I've reached my max in uphill running, only training that has made me threw up)

With any heavy set, I found it funny that HR actually increased after the set for 10-15secs. After that it started to gradually lower as normal.

Or maybe it is just bodys way to "catch up" with oxygen loss or something?
