The LA Fitness gyms i've gone to have good machines, good space but ZERO intensity-no noise from anyone, zero sweatin while lifting. Nothin happening, it's like a library. Might as well post signs to the effect that you've entered the no sweat, no noise, no work zone.
Not tryin to give myself props but looking around between sets i seem to be it when it comes to hardcore. In fact it's obvious that anyone who sweats or makes the least bit of noise from exertion is immediately noticable, stands out.
Even guys with some development look like they just go thru the motions. Some sweat while doing cardio, but more typical is the dude doing cardio while on cell and/or reading a mag. :-\
They don't comprehend that to make positive changes takes work, or they're unwilling to do it. Strictly going thru the motions in most cases.
I'll have to try the World and Gold's gyms, hopefully there will be some difference but i think it's a cultural thing. Yuppies don't like workin hard let alone being seen sweatin.

Modern gyms are more of a hang out places than actual gyms.
But in our/my gym. Yes, they do. Even I break a sweat everytime... but I'm bloated fat bastard so it ain't hard :)

Who cares what anyone else in the gym is doing. You should be concerned with yourself and your own workouts, not anyone else.

I tend to agree with this.

where i go only the hardcore lifters go. they pretty much all compete or have been. why would i wanna train anywhere else?
even the women have bigger arms than most guys at regular gyms.

FWIW, Arnold thought gym intensity important enough to seek out.

It's always inspiring when I see others around me training with intensity and pushing themselves. Luckily, there quite a few who do.
It helps create a certain atmosphere that helps motivate me especially if I'm feeling tired or not really in the mood to be at the gym.

Ya, didn't matter since at the time it was the only gym around. Actually it's got excellent equipment so if motivated there's not much missing other than anyone serious, which can be done solo. I'm getting in great shape with great workouts regardless.
Gonna try the World and Gold's gym but an not necessarily expecting them to be alot better but who knows.

I laugh because that's exactly what i do is my own thing; breaking the silence actually seems to motivate a few others around it seems. On the other hand a good gym with the right vibe only helps, definitely a plus.
