I'd have to agree, BioShock,  Great story, great game physics, great art, great suspence, great game play, great voice overs, inventive resource system and items etc..

with Fallout3, Left4dead, MGS4 & GT4   as honorable mention

I borrowed a PS3 because MGS is my favorite series ever.  I thought that 4 was a very good game, mostly though, because I was so heavily invested in the story.  Had I not been, the amount of cut scenes in this game bordered on ridiculous.  I want to play the game, not watch a movie.

They somehow did manage to wrap everything up.  The ending was unbelievable.

Gears of War 2. 

GTAIV was the most OVERRATED game of '08. 

Bioshock won game of the year in '06 I think.  I loved that game, I think I might pick it back up and play for a few achievements. 

I agree that Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, MGS4, and Resistance 2 will get nominated if not honorable mention.

I didn't play or follow any of the games leading up to GTA 4   so it was fun for me.

Given that situation, it was probably and incredible game.

It's just not if you've done it three times prior, though.
