Title: Dr Pepper Site Crashes Under Chinese Democracy Giveaway Visitor Load
Post by: McFarland on November 23, 2008, 12:38:22 PM
Dr. Pepper-related search terms occupy 7 of the top 10 Google search terms this hour and the site has crashed...I wonder what the scene's like at Best Buy today?  Anyone been yet?

Guns N' Roses

Burned it last week. Parts of songs are amazing, but no song as a whole is amazing. Just too much futzing around in the studio. As an aside, I just listened again to the Derek and the Dominos album. Now that's great stuff - recorded in quick time with real musicians blitzed out of their tree. Timeless.  :)

I did this too last week and I completely agree. Shacklers Revenge is probably the only decent track - the rest are very average and without Slash it doesn't really sound like a true Guns n Roses album. It sounds too industrial and not raw and sleazy like Appetite for Destruction did.

In a rare interview with Rolling Stone in 2006, Rose shed more light on his long awaited Chinese Democracy album. "We're working on 32 songs, and 26 are nearly done," he said in the interview. "People will hear music this year," he said. "It's a very complex record, I'm trying to do something different. Some of the arrangements are kind of like Queen. Some people are going to say, 'It doesn't sound like Axl Rose, it doesn't sound like Guns N' Roses.' But you'll like at least a few songs on there."

The irony here is "That is CLASSIC AXL" and "this is so Guns N' Roses" have been my two most common realizations while slowly taking this album in.  Anybody else got a more informed take on this album yet they'd like to share?

I think there's a reason he demanded the band name from Slash and McKagan and they gave it to him, it's because he IS Guns N' Roses.  Guns N' Roses and Slash were just on a different trajectory IMO.  It's interesting to examine the bickering that's been done back and forth between Scott Weiland and him.  It's also odd to me that Slash's name is the only one you've heard out of Steven Adler's mouth so far in Celebrity Rehab 2 playing on VH1 right now...

That whole original band right now is living in that man's wake...some got rich, others went the other direction...

After a couple o days the verdict is is.

New record is shit hot.

More Complex than the classic tune but well worth the listening effort.
Buckethead is The player of his generation.

In the late 80's Gunners where a bit 70's styled retro. They did it very well, so did the Black Crowes, Fourhorsemen etc. At the time it seemed fresh and edgy.
Not suprised he moved on from this genre, no matter how well they did it.
Now that would have been lame today.

Having seen Gunners live in 89 & 07
Some observations.

If you saw them live in '89 and '07 you are a certified diehard IMO.
