I trained at metroflex for a few months but $43.00 a month seems a little high to me. So I went back to my old gym even though it was all the way on the other side of Dallas because the owner only charges me $20.00 a year.
-
I really think there are more factors at play than just a monthly rate. Hours and who else will be working out at said gym are very important to me.

I agree they are both open almost the same hours. I train by myself at both places most of the time

Yea

Amazing rates, 20.00$ year, you lucky guys in states.
Here I pay 350€ special year offer, if you pay monthly will be around 60€.
And no way gym like yours.
Where are you at?
-
Spain.
I see. Yeah, we're fortunate to have some nice gym across the country (U.S.).
I bet you got some hot ass women though..... ;)
-
20$ a year seems to be low Karl... were you doing any 'side businesses' to get such a deal ;D

Karl is a legitimate paper bag salesman Alex.

No but the owner is a real nice guy. I'm sure he gives a few of the guys who have been there for a while the same deal. It's a small place , sorta like Metroflex.

whats that. I guess I'm dumb

That's pretty cool. I envy you; here in San Diego, the corp. have taken over; LA Fitness, 24hrs... not more mom and pops gyms :(
I wish thought, I like these smaller places and bring in good energy when I'm around.

ya me too. I refuse to train at one of those big places if I can help it. It's sorta like a family where I go now

Good ol days when I paid 50 euros for a year.
Best gym ever :(
-
$43 is a lot for anything in tx. metro looks hardcore but run down. must be the ronnie factor.
worst - 24fit, it's just nothing good to say about weight training...just all club membership through usa...so if you move around, there is somewhere to workout
best - betterbodies, they keep the fitness club theme but put some money and space 5000sqft> into free weight area and separate it from the children stuff.
2nd best - world's gym, it's a good setup if it is small... but watch for the owner. i paid off the last 4 mths of a membership i had...just to get rid of the b###h that ran the one i got suckered into.
3rd best - home gym, had a nice $1200 setup with about 600lbs free awhile back. it's easy to keep a 3on/2off type schedule w/out messing w/other parts of your life.
do 3 days a week at 24fit. will have to do. $33 all club. other stuff is at least a 40 min commute now to and from.
-
the same amount of cash your mom pays be for a fuck, reasonable.

As long as gas prices stay reasonable, it probably isn't a bad idea to stick with the old gym. I suppose the Dallas traffic is the worst part of the puzzle.

Yea. Mid day or weekends it's not so bad though.
-
depends where you live. In Miami Beach, the average gym membership is $105 per month....It's all relative.
-
i paid $60 a month for Lifetime Fitness. It was nice and there was no blacks.
But I stopped working out and upped my Doritos dosage.
-
Decide whether the price difference is worth it to you in some way.
-
Karl, I think it's an ok price. At Gold's in Gurnee, IL...is $100 down and then 58 a month. If you don't want to pay the 100 up front, then it's 68 a month. At Powerhouse in Waukegan, I'm paying 42 a month, no initiation fee. Up in Milwaukee at Animal House Gym (where Art Atwood would always train) it was 40 a month, no contracts..nothing just bring in a check or cash each month which was awesome. It was in a warehouse...all Body Masters and Hammer Strength equipment...nothing fancy, but lot's of equipment. So I think what you're paying is pretty decent.

Gurnee, Waukegan, Milwaukee? Dude, you must be making millions of dollars a year living in those fine areas.

I live in Skokie/Evanston, but I did some work at Waukegan HS and Gurnee...well, the mall's nice.
-
cant u guy afford buying some used machines weights and a rack/bench to put in your garage?
it.s a lot cheaper and i thought you were so hardcore you would have think about it sooner...

It's just cheaper cost of living up here. We can purchase a nice home (around 2800 sq feet) for 250k-ish out by Lake Villa. At the same time, some friends of ours purchased a townhome in Carol Stream for 275k thats a fraction of the size. Granted there's a commute involved, but you can get a better home for the money up here.

Hmm. Yeah but you get to throw around the barbells and swear all the mother-f*fuckin' live-long day like Branch, and you get to use Ronnie's weight bitch. Sounds like a steal at any price.
-
mine cost now us$88/month but they give me white towels, theres sauna, jacuzzi and free access to spinning & pilates oh brother..pilates :(
-
I train in my basement gym. It would have to be a fantastic gym with great atmosphere in order for me to pay $43 a month. Plus, would have to be close to home.
-
I have to fork out $64 a month. :(
But it's all relative. It's a fairly expensive part of Sydney and obviously people are willing to pay that much. And in the last 12 months quite a few new gyms have opened up in the area, but they don't really appeal to me.
My gym is very basic but has everything i need. No saunas or spas, classes or shit like that, just basic machines and lots of free weights.
-
thanks for all your feed back guys
-
I pay $45 + $10 locker fee. So i'm paying gold's $55 bucks a month. It's 3-7 minutes from my house tho.

Fuck that. That's like saying, "my Cable company charges me $250 a month for 300 channels, including Golf channel, knitting channel, and the pottery channel". I.E., shit you DON'T fucking need.

yeah, i don't use the sauna or pool. I wish i could get a discount :(
-
You mean no one pays the $9.99 a month or $99 a year at Planet Fitness :-\
-
i once throwed a prostitute out of my car.
This is the kind of workout I am talking about people, Mars is a serious trainer.....
-
Consider yourself fortunate. I have to pay 45$ a month for a YMCA (ugh....) that is a 35 minute drive from where I live. Next closest gym after that is two hours.
-
Karl, did your dad ever refer to himself as Double K? Like Arn is Double A....
-
if I had $43 I'd buy some oil paint... or maybe a sus250 pre load from mexico.
Or some nicorette? haha
-
Karl, you wouldnt be talking about Texas Gym by any chance would you. Awesome gym

I was going to say the same thing about Phoenix Alex. From what I can tell, there are no more hardcore-type gyms. Just LA Fitness, 24-Hr, Golds HEALTH CLUB, etc. I really miss the Davenport, IA. Two really good hardcore gyms.
-

I have a free membership to the Planet Fitness but I pay 39.99 a month to go somewhere else :-\

In Lubbock I paid $842 for a year membership @ bodyworks for me and my wife. The membership includes access to 4 different gyms around town, all of which are pretty nice. It's good for me because sometime I get tired of training at the same gym.
Zack Thomas has a gym in Lubbock but it sucks compared to Bodyworks
-
It costs a lot to run an independent gym, especially when you don't get a lot of phantom members (they sign up and you never see them).
$43/month is pretty average for a decent gym IMO. See if they have a Discount if you pay a year up front. Otherwise, you can go to Ballys or 24hr fitness...which may have specials and can be cheaper, but you have to accept that kind of soft atmosphere.
-

Your god damn right I am !

He is small now he can't lift anymore but he still wears the hat and the flannels are not sleevless anymore

I joined a gym called colony square yesterday. It is amazing, the free weight area is literally out a door and in another building. It tends to keep the twinks out.
-
should be only 20 a month,or free like i do
