Title: Las Vegas and cost
Post by: divcom on December 08, 2008, 11:55:07 AM
BBers and members keep saying that Vegas is cheap.  Are we talking Mississippi cheap?  Do all these guys work Casinos who live there?  Wiggs?  I checked for clinical work...just for the hell of it...and couldnt find much of anything.  Curious?

Vegas is way cheaper than Cali but more expensive than the South.

62% of our revenue comes from gaming. Healthcare is huge here in Vegas.  Keep in mind we have an unemployment rate of 7% expected to go higher, the highest highschool drop rate in the nation and one of the highest crime rates.  I'm not trying to scare you off, I'm just speaking the truth.  If you live in a good neigborhood (i.e. away from poor whites, blacks and Mexicans) you'll be fine. :D

It is very bad for work right now.  You'd be better off staying where you are.

Vegas is cool as fuck - I've been three times in the last four years - not bad for someone who lives 6000 miles away from it.

I'd love to visit Vegas one day, just to say I've been.  Can't see me wanting to live there though.

Anything after 4 days at a time and I'm pretty sure it's either jail or rehab for me.

I have spent quite some time out there. Always go for the Superbowl. I designed the menus at the Stratosphere for four years. Hands down the Top of the World Restaurant has the nicest view in Vegas.

Obviously you have never been here or you may be the boring one.  Vegas isn't the #1 vacation destination in the country because it is boring.  In fact if you get bored here there is something seriously wrong with you.  I have lived in the most beautiful places in the country and Vegas ranks at the top for things to do.  But I do miss Hawaii a whole bunch.  Not that there is more to do there, just the awesome scenery, weather and NO pressures.

Personally I don't gamble, and since 80% of Vegas is casino's....  the best time I had there to be completely honest was at the shooting range's, I was there for 4 hours and spent almost $400 shooting all my favourite assault rifles. Food was great too, other major highlights were the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. :)  oh, and me and gf stayed at the Luxor. Great place, just kind of one-dimensional if you don't gamble.

Tons of entertainment at shows all up and down the strip.  Each casino has its own appeal.  Venetian, Bellagio, Monte Carlo, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand etc are all great place with alot of things to do in each one.  The lake during the summer is awesome.  Rent a boat and just go.  The desert is awesome for off roading and motorcycles.  Golf is awesome.  Helicopter rides, Mt Charleston is just 30 minutes north of Vegas.  Shopping galore!  They got rid of the Waterpark which was great.  On top of the Stratosphere are the great rides.  I wish they had as much to do in Hawaii. Especially the gambling

What kind of work are you looking for?  I work in an Emergency Room, and the hospitals are always hiring.  That's definitely the most stable industry to be in right now.  It pays well, and there's a huge shortage in all areas.

I've been here for almost 5 of the last 6 years, and I'm not crazy about it.  I stay because of job security, and my family.  The strip, and all that comes with it, gets real old, real fast.  You have to really search to find worthwhile, sincere people.  Most are fake, liars/players, gold-diggers, and completely plastic.  No real substance.  If you're from a place that has a strong sense of community, you'll be shocked at how people treat each other here.
