As if its an indicator of intelligence? I think it shows how good you are at memorizing facts and circling in a b c or d. Bar exam is a true sign of intelligence.

Yeah, everyone knows that grades have absolutely no correlation with intelligence. It's ridiculous that Universities don't use a better measure of knowledge than showing you "know" what you've been taught. It's so cool that we're better than everyone else. We're way smarter than everyone else, we just don't feel the need to bow down to the "system" and learn what we're taught!

Academic accomplishments correlates with IQ. The correlation coefficient is about 0,50. So, yes, on average academic accomplishments is an indicator of intelligence.

That is poor correlation. Almost insignificant.

I remember reading the study that proved that exact percentage! Can't argue with peer reviewed, research backed evidence!

Neisser et al. (August 7, 1995). "Intelligence: Knowns and Unknowns". Board of Scientific Affairs of the American Psychological Association.
The complexity/inherit difficulty of the academic field probably also plays a role. A 4.0 GPA in high level mathematics probably has more brainpower than a 2.0 GPA in sociology on average.

Yes, I think this proves that it is exactly a 50% correlation. Good stuff.
The sad thing is, people are actually dumb enough to believe they're smarter than the people graduating Magna Cum Laude....the only reason they didn't get good grades is because they didn't feel like "memorizing" worthless shit.

It IS a good indicator of intelligence with a desire to succeed in education in hopes that it will transfer to a successful future. HOWEVER, if you have to brag about your GPA to get people to think you are smart...you are gay. People can usually tell the dumbasses and dimwits from the individuals who are above 1 standard deviation of the norm. Stating your GPA is like telling everyone that your mom thinks you are the cutest boy in school. It doesn't carry much weight in what others think.

A hug? For what? You used to be funny. It's sad to see what has become of the Debussey gimmick. Much like Jeux, you've turned to shit.
You do know that the real Debussy always struggled with his obvious intellectual limitations, right? Teh funny is below the surface on this one.
-
You'll never have to worry about me bragging about that :(
-
Bar Exam?? Really, that shit was fairly easy with proper preparation. Tests knowledge and ability to be logical. Not intelligence. I know plenty of profoundly stupid lawyers.

I was getting into a debate with a guy on another board during the election and he was loosing the argument horribly so he pulls out the "Well I was invited to take the Mensa test, what about you?" statement.

;D
And no, GPA is a good correlation for "nerdiness" NOT intelligence. The smartest people I know (all engineering majors) were also the laziest!! I think one of them accidently had a 3.0, one of them lost his full ride scholarship to USC, and the other actually got kicked out. All of them almost Aced the SAT and could solve any physics/calculus etc. problem you could throw at them...

I am stupid.

It doesn't surprise me that a lot of getbiggers are saying that GPA has nothing to do with intelligence. A couple of months ago, a lot of people were saying how "stupid" it was to go to college.
Getbig, where you meet the smartest people ever, with the greatest advices on the internets.
