looks to be within the last few years - maybe from his latest video.
you only get to be that big by lifting heavy.
-

that kind of lifting is why he tore his pec and is now retired.
-
Damn... :o
Ruhl, the best freak ever. Such a cool guy.
His chest (pre tear) had to be one of the thickest ever.
-
that kind of lifting is why he tore his pec and is now retired.
He is making a comeback. He looks to be in pretty good shape again.
and remember that Ruhl had one of the best chests ever.
That style of training obviously worked well for him.

may not have something to with the way he trained, but how wide his grip was.
nonetheless, 15 years of hard training, something will eventually give.

ruhl was the biggest pro ever*
he fixed that chest?
look at his grip, it's way too wide, and with the poundage he uses, it's a miracle he doesn't tear it every session
go a little closer grip ruhl :o
*no triceps ;D

exactly I said that in my post before I saw yours
grip that wide makes it way more likely to tear the pec
Layne Norton just tore his pec, now he knows he should go closer grip
-
Anyone seen any recent pics what his pec looks like now? It was real bad in some of the not so recent photos i saw.

Yep...somehow his pec tear seems to have gotten better.
I agree with the grip though, i tried it once and was surprised at the amount of pressure it puts on your chest.
Still, it worked for him.

flat bench is way over rated IMO, it puts too much stress on the front head of the deltoid
and the pec tendon
incline is a much better angle
so many guys have torn their pec on the flat bench
-------------------------------------------------------------
Levrowned
I saw some recent pics, he looks great
I don't know how he fixed it, looks like it was never torn

Completely agree.
That's why i do no flat benching at all.
I only do DB incline, flat flyes and dips.
I tried the wide grip ages ago just to see what it was like.
-
Notice how wide he benches.......all chest.

Now if he would take your advice,he'd be considered one of the best.. ::) ::)

benches 545 for 3, then struggles to do 315 for 4 reps without the spotter lifting half the weight for him.
:D
-
Insanely wide grip for that weight. :o
-
ITS NOT 545 !!!
yellow plates - 15 kilograms(approximately 30 pounds).
in Europe we see a lot of these yellow plates.

you can paint shit but it's still just painted shit.

Correct it's about 470 lbs
FAIL
Correct I forgot to add the 25s

It's 210kg - +- 470 pounds.

Wasn't Alex23 doing 470 for 7-8 reps? Maybe he can confirm.
-

Ofcourse he was not. :)
-
Ofcourse he was not. :)
maybe it was 370. Thought it was 470. fuck i dont know. I thought it was impressive though.
-
Who is the man that is spotting Ruhl on the bench? He must be Ruhls training partner as I have seen him in other Ruhl videos.
-
That's his wife...
-
Ruhl has complained and been criticised on his weak triceps.
Lifting like this will stimulate the chest and front delts.
He'd be better off taking a narrower standard bench press grip, and bringing up those triceps.
He's gonna wind up injuring himself lifting (again) with that form too.
-
It's 210kg - +- 470 pounds.
Exactly.
-
Irrespective of how much he's benching, it's made all the more impressive by the fact his grip is so ridiculously wide. Good stuff.
-
TEAM RUHL!!
-
That's his wife...
THat's a man baby
-
Opinions on Ruhl's wide grip? I remember reading an article in Flex maybe 8-10 years ago. It was "written" by Matarazzo. I think it was titled something like "rule of opposites" or something close to that. His point was if you want to work the inner chest -- go widergrip. If you want to work outter chest -- go with a more narrow grip. This practice was not only for chest but also for quads (stance) and back (grip).

EXACTLY, i was gonna say those yellow plates are not 45's, he's still EXTREMELY strong but that weight was more like 455 not 545, like i said he's still a huge very strong guy.
-
Completely agree.

translation=you couldn't bench shit after years of training just like the majority of guys, this is the most common excuse for guy who don't bench because they're not good at it and it's just too hard, "i don't bench at all anymore because it's too tough on the shoulders and i don't want to risk a pec tear so i do giant sets of dips, flyes, db inclines and cable crossovers". ::)

locking the weight out is all triceps no matter how wide your grip is, fuccking idiot.
-
haha like he hasnt tried anything yet to bring up his triceps, i bet he hit them harder and heavyer than pros with great triceps.
-

if you don't have triceps after locking out a 455 bench for reps you ain't gonna have 'em no matter how many pushdown/extension/kickback supersets you do. ::)
-
that clip is from "Big And Loving It" (Ruhl's latest Dvd which just came in the mail the other day)
looks to be (maybe?) the funniest and most entertaining bodybuilding DVD ever (lot's of hardcore training as well)
DVD has a "Nice Or Nasty" feature/version (which deletes all the farting and other funny/gross stuff)
good stuff!
-

First at all, it would be nice if you little critters would know what you are talking about, because it is clear that you don't have even a clue what that clip is all about. Does "wide grip bench press" ring any bells? That is special exercise to maximize width of your chest, so Marcus uses moderate weight of 200 kilos, (440lb) in it. Secondly, it makes me laugh my ass off when I read your comments about him and every other pro builders, because I know who you are. You are little kids who have no life outside of getbig, and you poor bastards will never accomplish even one percent of that what Ruhl etc. have accomplish in their life. In fact, after the first time you guys shit in your diapers, you will not accomplish anything equally important in your poor little life's, and you can just try to figure out how sad that is...

settle down homo
-
I dont see how the hell he doesnt blow out his delts and/or rotator cuff with that wide ass grip he always uses. He could bench more than that with a close grip approach.
-
appears to be in alot of pain lifting
-
ruhl is no pussy lifter
-

Exactly, I was wondering how long it would take for someone who actually knows something on here to notice that. And as much as the spotter was helping you can take off another 30 lbs or so. For someone as huge and muscular as he was that wasn't not that impressive. The only thing is that it could have been one of his last sets. But then why would he post and record a set that wasn't one of his strongest.

i dont know man, but something is wrong with your grammar here. Far be it from me with my piss poor spelling etc but i almost had a seizure trying to derive meaning from that sentence. So the only reason im saying anything at all is to warn the epileptics of this site to stear clear away from this post.

take out "not" :D
-
That videoclip is not actual. It was taken in his former Gym (Sportstudio Ottwald). Right now he is a gym owner 30 km away from that gym in Darmstadt (Rühl´s Fit & Fun)
it´s 210 kg... blue = 20 kg/44 lbs. yellow 15 kg/33 lbs black 10 kg/22 lbs. + normal standard Olympic bar.
-
its 467lbs unreal still
-
Who is the man that is spotting Ruhl on the bench? He must be Ruhls training partner as I have seen him in other Ruhl videos.
You must be intelligent and very knowledgeable, being the only one able to notice that.
-
didnt even get one rep....
not even one the spotters hand was on the bar from the start
NOT EVEN ONE REP
pure ego lifting at its finest
lighten the weight and bench it yourself
-

come on man, i know you hate white bodybuilders but you have to admit that was impressive, it's not like she was pulling on the bar with all her might or anything, he handled that weight fairly cleanly, my only problem is that it's not 545 like someone else quoted but 455.
-
blue = 20kg or 44lbs
yellow = 15kg or 33lbs
bar = 20kg or 44lbs
collars are .5kg or 1.1lbs

dude are u nuts marcus is one of my fav bbers... why do u think i hate white bbers?????? u are dead wrong there...
far as im concerned and this goes across the board if your spotter has his or her hands.. omn the bar from the first rep .. you didnt do it i dont care who u are 120 lbs or 300lb. trust me just her keeping the bar moving is helping A LOT you as lifter should know this.... ask onlyme.. i remember him stating the same thing as well...
he didnt do one single rep
-

what i mean is that at least 90 percent of that weight is going to him and his muscles, with that type of weight AND that grip it's very very impressive.
-
yes im suprised he didnt rip his chest with that wiiiiiiiiide grip
... if you think he did 90% what he should do is ligten the load by 10% and push it....
that is EGO training...
i can bench 405....
i could put 20lbs more lbs on the bar and have a spotter help from the first rep but i know that would be bullshit because i know i didnt really bench the weight
..
i have seen dudes in the gym doin the same thing.... spotter pulling 315 off them
i then step in and say let me spot you next set...
then i ask how much are u shooting for.... BEFORE i touch the bar.... one guy said 4
I said... try and get one...
what do u think happened the bar stayed on his chest and sisnt move till i yanked it off him
so like i said i am a HARD lifter...
and if the spotter hands touches it .. u didnt do that rep
-
Terrible triceps.

Bob Chick has mentioned numerous times that the barbell bench press is the number 1 exercise related to pec tears.. he's stated that he prefers dumbells or something else than the barbell bench.. and he's not a small guy.
I still do bench press but I prefer dumbells myself - I normally do flat, incline, decline presses.. I avoid dips, they fuck with my neck.
-
It is pretty hard to tear your pec on chin ups.
Its most common chest exercise therefore most tears etc will occur.
Same way a quad tear will probaly occur most times squatting

Actually it means that i do not like flat BB bench therefore i do not do it and have actually seen improvements in my chest since dropping them.
And i could care less how much i lift. I don't do powerlifting...i do bodybuilding.
Nice try though. :)

You forgot he's 19, has never actually trained in a gym, has NO experience in anything, yet he squats almost 600, weighs 240 at 8% bodyfat, 18" arms, is a model, and give training and diet advice. He has truly been taking what Goodrum and Apenis have been taking. And to top it off he tries to convince everyone he isn't gay. The guy has more issues than National Geographic.

I cant believe he actually said that he could probably beat you in the cage. I am sure he would run the whole time.

What makes me worry even more is how he arches his back and that his butt takes off from the bench in every single rep. Holy shit, that's one hell of an unhealthy form.... :D
-
appearantly it works.
-
suicide grip of course...
-
exactly, maybe one day he would crack top 7 at the olympia once ;)
umm he got 5th at the 2004 Olympia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
