Up to 30,000 additional U.S. troops could be sent to Afghanistan next year, roughly doubling the number alreading there, military officials said Saturday. Some 20,000 of the additional personnel would be combat troops, said Col. Gregory Julian, spokesman for U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
Does moving troops from one part of the world and into another save us any money? Oh, I forgot it's irrelevant because this time we'll be invading the right place and we'll catch Osama Bin Laden for sure. ::)

FFS, if anything, let UN handle the Afghanistan mess.
And then:
1. Pull out most troops.
2. Make some big cuts in the military budget to free up tax money.
3. Put that money into tax cuts, infrastructural projects and other things that can make the economy healthy again.
-
UNDER OBAMA WE SHOULD BE OUT OF IRAGQ SOON,,,,PEOPLE IN STATES WANT THAT,,NO SHOE FOR US,,

the UN? please excuse me while i wet myself from laughing.

No shit, the UN can't control a couple of drug lords with AK47...they wouldn't last in Afghanistan 2 minutes.

we told the UN in 2001 that we didn't need their help in afghanistan. (we caved later)
we told the UN in 2003 that we didn't need their help in iraq.
Looks like we had/are having sorta a rough time in those places, despite being as downright fucking awesome as our military is. Maybe it woulda been better to use their help? We can mock them, but let's be honest, an arab soldier would have a better chance on the streets of baghdad than an american - speak and look like the enemy - it would help.

theyve also flat out denied help to us countless times. it is not a secret that they are of no use to us.

I will bet anyone LOTS of money that as soon as the US presence in Iraq dwindles down Iraq is going to explode into violence. Just watch. This whole troop surge worked is all smoke and mirrors. There are a lot of terrorists, insurgents just waiting for us to leave. They are very patient.

so what was the reason we finally accepted their help in afghanistan? ;)
Oh, and why are we now negotiating with the scumbag taleban? giving them a part in the new govt? WTF matey?

if im not mistaken we will still leave some troops behind at least for a while...patient? so they wait until the US soldiers leave to go back to market bombings, using mentally challenged ppl to suicide bomb public areas and thats patience? Sounds more like cowardice to me.

Based on ur vast military experience and multiple tours in Iraq right? Gimme a break. As u get ur news from the net or TV I'd say u have zero clue what ur talking about, as usual.
The UN is useless, they are incapable of doing anything.

Hey HH6, are YOU going to Afghanistan?
Since the UN cannot torture or kill innocent civilians... I just think you could do a lot better with them "sand níggas".

haha and weren't you sent up the mountain to clean up trash Mr. Special Forces??????? You don't need to be a military expert to know that as soon as we live Iraq the shitstorm of terrorists and insurgents will return. Money can only buy so much time.
-
Muscles...u have no idea what ur talking about. And yes u actually have to have some experience before ur opinion is worth anything...which u don't have so stick to whatever it is u do.
Slapper u realize I'm active duty military right. I got back from Afghanistan in 07', its about time to head back over.

just because they lend resources at certain times does not make those resources of any great value to us. france has given the United States aid in the past. Do you think that they are a useful ally?
-
The UN ride around in white pick-ups that remind me of, whats the word...oh yeah....targets. The French patrol largely around Kabul and while friendly, don't do a hell of alot. The Canadians, Dutch and Brits have all fought very hard, as well as the Aussies and Kiwi's. The Germans are useless. Their SOF forces have conducted no ops during their entire time in Afghanistan. French SOF were invloved in a fire fight and left two of our guys to die......NATO has proved fairly worthless and the UN is a joke. If u want to know why we're forced to be the World Police, thats the reason. The so-called all African UN forces working in various countries end up as thugs and rapists to all the refugees from the war torn countries there. Europe has become a bunch of worthless, whiny girls.
-
Great so we can waste even more $ we don't have fighting in Afghanistan now.
-
My point about letting the UN handling Afghanistan is obviously about saving budget dollars.
Instead of only having US troops there, the expenses would be divided between 10-15 different countries.
As far as the long term results of such an operation in comparison to a USA only led operation - is it so clear cut that it would be so much worse for the USA to go in there as one of many others?
-
We're pretty much doing it alone anyway. Hedge...who else ought to go besides those I've mentioned. My point would be that all others are worthless.
-

I really don't have an answer.
But it seems like the military ops and wars of late has been rather costly for USA.
Hypothetical question: If USA said they would withdraw all of their main troops from the region, both Iraq and Afghanistan within the next six months, what would happen then do you think?
Is there any chance that a UN peace keeping force would work in keeping order in Afghanistan?

Canada has been trying to get out of Kandahar for years but no one wants to replace them.
An American troop surge wouldn't be required if all of the NATO countries would fight and would rotate into all of the provinces.
I don't imagine that Canada, Britain or the Netherlands thought that they would be sticking out in the south for the duration of the conflict.
Still nothing will be resolved until Pakistan is dealt with and Afghanistan has a credible army.
I wish anyone fighting in Afghanistan good luck, this is a war we need to win.

Everybody quit typing. HH6 is the only person allowed to have an opinion. In fact, if we are talking about any war, HH6 should start the thread and noone else respond. Now logout of getbig immediately, whiny girls.

Not going to dispute the cost. If we left Iraq, Iran would move in. Give it some time and that won't be possible but its still to early at this point for a pull out. Afghanistan is a shithole...but no NATO/US troops and the Taliban would very quickly seize power again and u would have the nutbags all flocking there for training again.

Where did you hear that?

"What I do or have done for Uncle Sam"..............Uncle Sam doesn't give a shit about you or your family (the American people). He's too busy with his wrecking ball destroying the country you are valiantly trying to defend. And he's doing a pretty damn good job. The U.S. is falling into a shit hole due to the policies of a corrupt and tyrannical government and corporate corruption. You're a pawn in an economic new world order.
-
A pawn.....dude....I get paid very well to do what I do, Uncle Sam has taken good care of me regardless of his intentions. And if we're falling apart at the seams and its all coming undone....I guess the guys in green will be the only ones left standing then huh!!! I guess ur fucked there bud. The sky is falling right? ::)

CBS: KBR knowingly exposed troops to toxic dust
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/CBS_KBR_knew_dangers_of_toxic_1223.html

Published: Tuesday December 23, 2008
A CBS News investigation has obtained evidence that a subsidiary of Halliburton, the giant energy company formerly headed by Vice President Dick Cheney, knowingly exposed United States soldiers to toxic materials in Iraq.
CBS interviewed Commander James Gentry of the Indiana National Guard, who is dying of a rare form of lung cancer that he believes is the result of "months of inhaling hexavalent chromium" after his battalion was assigned in April 2003 to protect contractors from Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) working in Iraq at a local water plant. Other members of his unit are also suffering from cancers or rashes associated with the toxic chemical, which was all over the plant.
"We didn't question what we were doing," a grief-stricken Gentry told CBS. "We just knew we had to provide a security service for the KBR. ... We would never have been there if we would have known."
CBS has obtained documents which indicate that KBR knew about the danger months before the soldiers were informed. KBR employee depositions show there were "concerns about the toxins in one part of the plant as early as May of 2003," while later minutes detail symptoms of exposure, including bloody noses and rashes.
It wasn't until the end of August that the Indiana National Guardsmen were informed that the plant was contaminated, and some say they have only just learned about it this year.
Indiana Senator Evan Bayh told CBS, "I think the burden of proof at this point is on the company to come forward and very forthrightly explain what happened, why we should trust them, and why the health and well-being of our soldiers should continue to be in their hands."
KBR has issued a statement saying, "We deny the assertion that KBR harmed troops and was responsible for an unsafe condition."
KBR, which was spun off by Halliburton in 2007 as a separate corporation, has previously been accused of providing contaminated water to troops in Iraq, taking kickbacks, and sending workers to Iraq against their will.
