Post by: The Master on December 20, 2008, 07:19:03 PM
The coolest US accents MUST come from Alabama or something.

What do americans think about people with those southern redneck accents? Are they considered dumb?

Yes, rightly or wrongly, people with southern accents are considered dumb.  This is because "official" America and people in positions of power generally use a midwestern accent (referred to as "no accent") rather than any pronounced regional accent.

Yes.

You will notice, even among news anchors in the twangy, southern states, they do not have southern accents. They have that "no accent" accent.

All news anchors, no matter where you go in the US, sound the same.

Note the women...they all sound exactly the same. Proper annunciation, no southern or cajun  accents. Basically same with the men.
