Henoch ("Henry") Frydman just celebrated his 100th birthday with his body building classmates in Saddleback College Emeritus Institute Fitness Class, a class he hasn't missed since 1977 and he exercises six days a week.
Nov. 15 at Clubhouse 1, Frydman celebrated his Nov. 11 birthday during his weightlifting session in the Saddleback College Emeritus Institute's Personalized Fitness Class, taught by Professor Diane Edwards.
"Henry is a true inspiration to his classmates," said Edwards. "His perseverance is unmatched, and it is a joy to see him each morning, ready for his exercises. I am truly awed by him."
Frydman's was born in Poland in 1908. During World War II, he was told that to escape the Holocaust, he could join the Russian Army's Jewish Battalion or be exiled to Siberia. He chose Siberia, where he learned the fur trade and became a furrier.
After the war, Frydman returned to his native Poland but soon moved westward to Germany, where he met some Americans who told him that he would find success in the United States.
He followed their advice in 1951, and opened a fur shop in Chicago, where he lived until he moved to Laguna Woods in the 1970s. Frydman was married for many years and has two daughters, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Fitness has always played a large role in Frydman's life. As a child he enjoyed gymnastics and has since relished any chance to exercise.
Frydman says his secret to a long life is "activity and fitness."

I'd rather inhale 3 packs of cigarettes a day, smoke dope, fuck random whores, totally neglect my body, get piss drunk every night, then die liver scirossis at 38... instead of living to be 100 and looking like some decrepit mummy.

Great story, my grandmother turns 100 in January and is for the most part bedridden but she can remember things most of my family can't. Makes me think when I see this guy and my grandmother how much better she would have been if she had exercised.
