Title: Dennis Newman comeback?
Post by: 240 is Back on December 28, 2008, 12:37:38 PM
How old is Newman????

THE CHALLENGE

After winning the 1994 NPC USA Championships, Dennis Newman was touted as "The Chosen One"-- the man who could take bodybuilding into mainstream America through his movie star good looks and Herculean physique. However, just 10 days after the greatest victory of Dennis' career, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening form of leukemia. Dennis fought the cancer like he approached bodybuilding; with no possibility of failure. Two years later, Dennis defeated his leukemia but lost his greatest passion in life-- a professional bodybuilding career. Now, 10 years later, Dennis has unfinished business to settle, and he's taken up a new challenge that's been laid before him. In 2008, with the help of Dave Palumbo and the SPECIES line of nutritional products, Dennis Newman makes his return to the Pro Bodybuilding World where he'll give all the fans, the magazines, and the bodybuilding websites what they've waited 10 long years to see-- the passion, the presence, and the best Dennis Newman ever! Remember, there really are no problems in life; everything happens just as it's supposed to and at exactly the right time. Now is Dennis Newman's time!

he has to be 37 or 38 by now, he tried that little "coming back" stunt awhile back at the Olympia one year and he starthed posing out in the crowd and he was pretty much laughed at, who knows.

i know it is a successful marketing/advertising but i hate the "comeback with the help of XXX supplement line" tactic

we all know that his muscle memory and "gas" will get him to old form

that is, if dennis can gas up.  I don't know if that will put him into remission or whatever

Yes, the comeback with ABC supplements is hilarious to anyone with any knowledge of the industry.

I'm just wondering why Newman would try a comeback at this point.

He built a great physique in the past on MEGAMASS 4000 so it's a big risk for him to change supp companies at this stage of his career.

I was never a fan of his... but, yes, he looked good back in the day.  As for a comeback... I hope he has moved on.  Training for himself is fine but as far as competing goes, he has had his 15 minutes.

The 1996 Mr Olympia in Chicago Dennis, after being denied by the IFBB powers that be to be able to Compete (or more to the point convice the IFBB he was medically fit to compete again) rushed up on stage out of frustration, after the posedown and hit a series of quick fire pose's before being asked to leave politely by officials, in his prime years before being struck down with Leukemia Dennis was being talked about as a possible next big thing. :(

He used to have a bangin' ass woman too. Then once he got sick, not only did the muscle leave, but so did she as well.

I remember reading of Newman's illness. At the time Dennis was claiming not to have medical insurance. A fund was setup to help with his Medical bills. Several months later well into his recovery there were articles and pictures of his comeback. The articles spoke of him not being able to again use Hgh, but 'roids would be OK. The pictures showed him driving a brand new shiney black Corvette. A few months later it was stated that he had actually had Medical insurance. I guess he used the Medical funds to buy the new Corvette.

He does look shorter. Did he have bone surgery? His limbs look shortened. I like how his biceps did improve quite a bit from sept. 2007-dec. 2007. Other than that, his chest is finished and so are his abs. He has NO condition at all. He doesn't even look like he would win a local show.

Good for him, since competing was obviously something he loved. But, there's alot of big-name pros to contend with. Might be best shooting for the under-200lbs shows and come in ripped to the bone with good aesthetics and proportion.

As I recall he did a few shows in the late 90's and didn't do so well.  He started out as potential Flex Wheeler, but ended up a Chris Cook.
