The BEAST is pissed off with me, I'm afraid. And I think I'll give the alien spaceship a miss Debussey. What do you think of the whole 2012 thing?

Why = Teh Jenny pissed?

2012: The aliens increase the size of the anal probe with this simple function: f(x) = 1,1^x (where x equals the number of years since 2007, meaning x=5 in 2012), so in 2012, the anal probe will be quite big. Since the graph of an exponential seems to have a point where the growth just takes off, it looks like pretty bad news for Debusseys anus :'(

LOL. Dubai was really nice. We were followed by quite a few midget pimps trying to sell 'girls'.
Bahrain is getting there, not near as nice as Dubai.
Doha was clean and nice, but way too strict.

Oh and our driver did stink. no joke.

Ya, I'm from Jersey originally.  Some nice areas but a lot of garbage there too.

Mom was here for Christmas (I blame her turkey, garlic mash, pecan sweet potatoes, cornbread stuffing, etc etc, for my current state  :D) and just went back home to Chapel Hill in NC, not too far from you.  She's hooked on Aus.  Plans to spend a couple months next year.  I'll have to change my screen name to Fatass.

Never heard of Killers Beach... but a guy got eaten by a shark about 2 miles north of my beach on Saturday.  The police put out a statement saying something like, "Well, that's nature for ya."  Fuckin' Aussies.  8)

Yeah, the sharks are going crazy this time of year, as always.

I actually went to Bondi Beach a couple of days ago (i live in Sydney but never venture out of my neck of the woods  ;D ) and i was there and the shark alarm went off. Pretty funny, thousands of people running out the water.

know a guy who lives in Bogota but i havent talked to him in a while.  he seems to be ok, is a musician.  then...i crossed paths with a patient who lived their for 2 yrs, and said he walked around afraid everyday.  there are other issues there besides farc which is more poltical these days.  deal with the major cities...just like any usa big urban city.  country side and rural areas are bad news for gringos.

if you can speak official LA Spanish and blend well...then it's all good.

Surf Guide

The best breaks

Photo: Snapper Rocks - Gold Coast - One of the best right point in the world

 Gold Coast, North NSW, Geelong

Surf in Australia: In the beginning of the 1900's, it was prohibited for anyone to swim in the sea between 6:00 in the morning and 8:00 in the evening. Whoever breached the law was imprisoned and not seen well by the community. One day, a gentleman, probably drunk decided to take a dip at noon. He was wearing a jacket and tie and many people came to watch him and decided to imitate the act. The police quickly came and everybody arrested and fined them! The two main reasons for this law was that farmers didn't like employers to leave the work during hot summers to refresh themselves at the beach, and secondly; Australia still had prisoners at that time who did forced work. It meant that if you had a tan, you might have looked like a prisoner. But as time passed, the law also lost its effect (VIP's were breaching the law anyway) and 1901 was the year it officially became legal for people to swim at Australian Beaches outside of those hours.

By 1950 the first imported wood surfboards had arrived in Australia. They were copied and adapted for Australian style and materials. Australian surfboards became lighter than their American and Hawaii counterparts, smaller in size and weight. By the 60's the Surf explosion had started and with it came friction between surfers and life savers. The biggest problem seems to be that surfers and swimmers were not happy sharing the same sand bar and life savers used to place the flags in their boundaries. Fights were inevitable. Later, a decision was made to distinguish areas between surfers and swimmers. At around the same time, the Council decided to charge a kind of surfboard license, which consists of a sticker glued on the board. This law and easy council revenue didn't last long either. By the 70's surfing was attracting multitudes to the beach, provoking a revolution and a new direction in the sport; becoming professional and profitable . Led by fantastic surfers such as!
Mark Richards, Rabbit Bartholomew, Terry Fitzgerald and many others who impressed the world with their surfing abilities, the sport was taken up professionally and practiced by a huge number of Australians.

Australia has many nice surfing beaches, both beach breaks and point breaks. Unfortunately we can't yet describe all Australian breaks on this website, but we will give you a good idea about the surfing beaches, considered top of the range for the quality of its waves.

Best Time for Waves = DECEMBER -> APRIL (Cyclone Season)

Water Temperature = 19 (winter) -> 26 (summer) Celsius.

Predominant winds = S/SE (winter) E/NE (summer)

Surf Spots on the Gold Coast

South Stradbroke Island -South Stradbroke Island - It is a sandy Island, very beautiful with gorgeous vegetation and waves. You get there by ferry (15 min crossing) or alternatively you can paddle (15 min) from the break water at the entrance of the bay. It is a beach break with nice sand bars and some point breaks. The beach break closes out when big but the point....[Back to Map]

The Spit, Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Miami e Nobby -  They are all beach breaks with nice waves when small and closing out when big. Shark nets protect these beaches..[Back to Map]

Burleigh Heads -Internationally famous, this right hand point break has dream waves but also nightmare crowds. Tip: get there very early to avoid the crowd. The wave is long and tubular especially after the drop.[Back to Map]

Palm Beach - The other side of Burleigh Heads Hill, it is another beach break with great fun waves when small and some isolated reefs that produce good peaks. [Back to Map]

Currumbin - Another great point break with nice waves. As with all of the Gold Coast, point breaks can get really crowded when waves are perfect. Long rides in front of river mouth driving always to Palm Beach. Also, a very beautiful location. Sometimes strong rips are formed depending on the tide. Has big swells as well..[Back to Map]

Tugun, Bilinga -By the north part of the beach there is a reef called Elephant Rock that produces tubular rights and lefts. The South part of the beach is open with a sand bottom ideal for learning how to surf when small. .[Back to Map]

Kirra -One of the best right points in the world, with express tubular waves. This place is one of the favourite surf spots of many professionals including Kelly Slater. 6- 8 feet is the ideal size, but it also gets very crowded when the waves are at their best.[Back to Map]

Greenmount, Rainbow Bay, Snappers Rocks - They are a set of beaches, all of them having point breaks 6-8 feet (the perfect size). Depending on size and direction of the swell, these 3 points are joined together forming one of the longest right waves in the world. When it is good it gets really crowded. I mean really, really, really crowded. Waves are fast, sometimes tubular and perfect, breaking on sand always in the bay.[Back to Map]

Officially here is the border between the states of Queensland & New South Wales. Shark nets finish here, and the water temperature gets a bit cooler. The angle of the coast also changes relating to the winds.

Crossing the New South Wales Border

Duranbah - This is one of the most popular beaches for Gold Coast surfers, simply because Duranbah will always have waves when everywhere else is flat. Duranbah will always have something good to be ridden. It holds big swells as well as small. Peaks are spread all over the beach extension and it always has a crowd.[Back to Map]

Cabarita ( 50km away) - If you driving south of the small village of Kingscliff, there is a great right point break called Cabarita (also name of the town). When it gets big it's is a very powerful wave that enters the short bay until it reaches the beach. Some times it gets crowded, but is much less than other northern points. When waves are big, Cabarita is tough to paddle out and the only way is walk back by the beach. On the other side of the hill a beach break has some good waves for the left handers. [Back to map]

Byron Bay (120 km away) - Surfie and Hippie Mecca during the 60's, Byron is an extraordinarily beautiful place. Today, Byron Bay is a must for anyone travelling Australia, surfie or not. The place is a meeting place of 3 smaller bays, with a hill and lighthouse on the top. The view from the top is fantastic and down below there are those beautiful and perfect waves rolling in onto a sandy bottom. It is inconsistent, and may take a while to break decently, but when it does, it really does. Very long rides, fast and tubular waves, clean and blue water that makes you feel like you are floating on air, and depending on the day, many Dolphins will share the waves with you.[Back to Map]

Lennox Heads, Ballina (140 km away) - South of Byron Bay, this right point is sometimes scary, but it is also perfect. Waves are heavy and powerful, breaking on rocks and sand. Water is clean but has a dark blue coloration because of the ocean depth. It is home to white pointer sharks also, and poisonous snakes on the hill. Easy to find, all you have to do is follow the road south, because the road passes in front of the point.[Back to Map]

Doug, this is going to piss you off but... I don't surf.  I live in Aus and I can't surf at all.  Tried it once (on a small board - the only loaner available) and couldn't even stand up.  After getting tired, even getting out was tough.  :-[  Thank god it was a beach break or I'd have been cut to shreads, and not in the bb sense.

I heard on the radio that they're concerned about Aus tourism dropping off by $500 million this year because of the global economy.  Maybe you can pick up a sweet deal if operators/hotels/etc start getting desperate.

I'm literally a 1 minute walk to the beach and i never surf. Can't do it. My dad and brother surf nearly everyday, yet i never got into it.

My parents also own a unit up at Snapper Rocks, one of the best surfing beaches in Aus. I'm a disgrace to all beachside dwellers.... ;D

I drink in moderation.  Done enough drinking to excess in my youth.  Getting rat assed doesn't really appeal anymore.  I don't get guys in their 30s, 40s, and beyond who are still pissing it up like they're 21.

Do you find it hard to be a non drinker in Aus, web?  It's very much a drinking/social drinking culture in my experience.

Quite hard. Particularly at my age. I'm the only one of my mates who doesnt drink.

The problem is people my age drink to get drunk, thats it. They don't have 2-3 drinks and then call it quits, there main goal for the night is to get shit-faced.

So its actually kinda resulted in me not going out heaps now. I don't care what anyone says, when everyone drinks and you don't, it isn't fun.

Truth.  I'm usually driving so I'm under .05.  Witnessing people way way over .05 is amusing for about 20 seconds.

Not sure if it holds true in Aus, but women seem to outgrow the shitfaced stage a lot quicker than guys.  Within a year or two, a lot of them have had enough of being around drunken idiots.  Not sure how old you are bro, but I'd wager you're not too young for an early 20s chick.  ;)

That could work.  ;D

Yeah i'm 19, but the girls my age are worse than the guys. They fuckin hammer the booze. Every week is the same, work during the week, then spend the weekend gettin shit-faced, sleeping the whole time, forgetting everything you've done and then realising that weekend cost you a couple of hundred bucks.

I probably sound like an old man, but it just doesn't hold much appeal to me. Every now and then, sure, but every week, fuck that...

Sounds like you're growing apart from them a little bit anyway.  Nothing wrong with filling some of that free time with an "experienced woman" stud.  Not doing the older woman thing is something I'd change if I could, but at 36 it'd be pretty gross by now.  ;)  Major drawback is older ones might be in a hurry for kids and marriage, so double wrap it and flush it when you're done.

Have to agree a drunken woman is a pain to put up with.  I had/have one in my life.  Because booze is culturally accepted, and even expected, she let it run her over (her damn fault tho, not Aussie culture's).  You sound a little wiser than I am, distancing yourself from fruitcakes and fuckups.  You just wind up being the responsible one by default while everyone else flakes out.  ::)

Well I had a trip planned to Bejing but couldn't handle the train ride and got off at Guangjhou(?).  I spent a month there but mostly in Kowloon and Hong Kong.  I should have flown to Bejing but my friend told me the train ride would be fun.  Fuck that! It was okay but I couldn't wait to get back to Hawaii.  I have planned several trips to Greece where I almost moved (Mykonos).  So that is one place I need to get to.  We had a trip planned for Europe back when my daughter was playing soccer.  It was for 3 weeks but it was the summer right after 9-11 and everyone decided not to go.  I like to travel and did alot of it in the US but I need to get to other countries.  Australia may be a place I go to next year.

We go up to the Farallones off San Francisco every year. Biggest whites on earth, but it's super cold, poor vis, and the sharks don't always show. The Baja trip's more popular, with more sharks and better conditions. Pricey, though, and the whites aren't quite as big:

This was from a recent Baja trip. The "small" sharks.

Hard to say, but I did see one the captain thought was "Stumpy," a 19-foot monster (over 5,000 lbs). Thing with that place, you don't see them until they're about 6 ft. from the cage.

No one had seen anything that day, and my feet were starting to cramp, so I'm looking down. Maybe 15 ft. visible below, and it's all dark, dark green. Then, it goes totally black. This fucking dinosaur appears outta nowhere and slowly creeps up toward the boat. Wider than the cage holding two grown men. Like a 747 - absolutely unreal!

Then, gone. Just like that.

Supposed to be a few even bigger, too.

And what do africans say about those claiming to be african american? have a look and see.

Really?  And Mex-Amer, Asian-Amer and others dont exist.  Africans can be amusing when you ask them about Black-Amer who are still the most successful group of Afri descent on the planet.

That's quite the list of African countries-are those all politically safe or did you risk a little and go into some other areas?

I visited most of the West African countries while participating in a student internship exchange program back in 1992. I was in Togo during a military coup if that counts. (Soldiers occupying the building I was in - there was a radio station on the top floor - I was on the ground floor. While I was scared when it happened, I don't think I was in any real danger as it was a non-violent coup).

While traveling through some of these countries (all on public transport, mostly buses) there were some tricky situations, specially at border crossings, but nothing really scary.

Going to and from European countries is easier than other countries.  I mean the US is so far from other countries.  You can't drive to them.  Canada and Mexico only.  Maybe we should count each state as a country. :D   You can go to several countries at a time via the bullet train in Europe right?  I want my list longer. :-\

Good Point, You can for example visit Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein within less than an hour on a bicycle, riding along the Lake Constance and Rhine cycling path...

If we could include states visited too at least my list will be longer.  I do think though each European country is so different that is really is like a different place.  States are different to but just don't seem as different as European countries are.

Too many to list. Virtually all of Middle East and Asia. Most European country and North America.
So when I speak of cultures -  I know from real life, not some silly book or biased news station.

I been pretty much everywhere and this give me an insight that most of you lack.
