Its 2009 and we need a new list of goals.
Some of us hit a few of our goal and fell just short of others. Nonetheless, everyone progressed!
“Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential” Churchill
Just start with a couple goals for the year. Remember, SET THE BAR HIGH!
Here's a few of mine:
- Take first in a competition.
- OHP 350+lbs
- DL 675lbs
- Carry 700lb Frame at least 60'
- 850+lb Yoke for no less than 60'
- Load a 400+lb Stone
Good luck with yours!

Timing isn't looking great for the PL meets up in this area, but we'll see. Maybe one of these days, VET will send me the info on the women's only PL fundraiser meet he mentioned to me a while back ::) ;D

compete in my 1st meet to get my feet wet
get my weight down so i can compete in the 198 division without having to diet and train

Are there books available on training like a powerlifter/training for a event?
Would it be a good idea to hire a trainer for someone who's looking to enter a comp?

1. There are training protocols available on the net. Check this site, eg.
2. Not IMO. Mainly because there aren't that many good "trainers" around.
It's better to look around for a real powerlifting club in your area. But you can pick up a thing or two on the net as well. From there to making perfect it takes dedication and perhaps a few training partners that can help you out.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

I guess we'll find out May 30.

I'm just starting to break in my gear, so I'd say by year end I'd like to hit 400/325/425. There's a USPF meet December 13 that I'm thinking will probably be my next comp so I've got some time to make it happen.
-
I started this year with the goal of totalling ELITE as a SHW in singly ply gear. I had a previous total of 1855--765 lb squat, 545 lb bench, and a 545 deadlift.
I did my last meet a couple of weeks ago. Like a moron, I fell down the stairs of my deck two weeks before the meet, injuring my left calf. I then retorqued it on the day before the meet, which didn't help.
At the meet, I met a few of my goals, but ultimately fell just short.
I squatted 805, benched 635, and only deadlifted 530 (my first attempt) @SHW in single ply gear for a 1970 total. I couldn't set up right to deadlift with my calf. I ultimately ended up in the emergency room the next day with my calf. I've got a grade 2 tear of the lateral head of my left gastroc. It kind of pisses me off because I really wanted to go over the 2000 mark, but I'm so close now, I know i"ll get it with my next meet.
Time to rehab and heal. ;D
-
Nice work Vet! I think you might just hit 2000 next time! ;)

Thanks...
It has been decreed, it will be done.
I'll go over 2000 next meet, maybe more. 2100 seems like a nice goal right now... Just gotta get the calf healed up.
-
WOW! Congrats Vet but sorry to hear about the calf. Hopefully the rehab will be quick and you can hit it the next time around. Very impressive totals nonetheless.
As for me.... I suppose I accomplished the goal of learning how to use the squat suit, but I fell short of 900 in the meet last weekend, primarily because I was playing it a bit conservative because I wanted to make sure I got my qualifying total for Nationals (which I did), and also because the meet and the judging were both a bit whacky and things kinda got messed up.
-
I'm thinking really really hard about doing Worlds in October. Calf rehab is going well. I've more than 12 weeks to get ready...
I have one more week of "conditioning" before I'm back at it hard.
Goals: squat 865, Bench 665, deadlift: 585, total 2100+ @ SHW. ;D

I'm new to GetBig.com and have always been doing more of a "bodybuilding" type routine (more reps, concentrate on the feel of the muscles). I want to get more into powerlifting and currently do 365x5 in the deadlift and have a goal of 500lbs by the end of the year. Let me know if anyone thinks this is unrealistic.

I think thats a pretty lofty goal to be honest but theres only one way to find out bro i say go for it man. If your getting 365x5 Id say your probably a tad bit over 400 so I dont think its all that far off now that I think about it. Ask some of the more seasoned lifters about dead routines the guys on this board are always a lot of help.

Didn't quite make it to the point where I wanted to, but still finished the meet calendar year not too bad off... other than my damned deadlifts...
Best squat: 825 up 60 lbs from last years best meet squat (done in the gear and almost 9 lbs lighter)...
Best bench: 635 up 90 lbs from last years best bench. (again done in the same bench shirt, but before I slimmed down a bit).
Best deadlift: 530 .... done in the meet I did with the damned torn calf. This is down 15 lbs from my best meet deadlift. Last meet I barely pulled 510. Have been having alot of problems with my neck/trap area, have been told I may have a cervical disc lesion, so thats getting worked up next week... gotta get the deadlift up.
Best total: 1970... .again in the meet I did with the torn calf. This is up 115 lbs from last years best meet total
Goals for next competition year: get my shit straight and go over 2100 in single ply.
Gotta get a new squat suit and bench shirt. My Rage X is working on being 3 years old now and the TRX is over 2. They are getting pretty stretched out/worn.
I plan to get my neck/trap fixed over the next few weeks and we'll go from there. The next meet is in the late spring 2010.
The sky's the limit.
