My friend has a french bordeaux and its so huge. I am not comfortable near it. Same with teh japanese akitas running about my area and wolf hybrids.

You're 100% wrong. If a pitbull is owned by a responsible person or at least a person who does not encourage bad behavior they are some of the best dogs out there. I have a huge American Bulldog, and he is more calm than any toy type breed you see out there. The fact that those dogs "running about" your area are "running about" in the first place proves their owners are retards. Why are they out running around? If you go to any bad area in Ireland, chances are all the bad people didn't have much structure or direction growing up. Dogs are no different. You're point is like me saying all Irish are violent, drunk, terrorists because of the actions of a few.
There is not a single credible expert out there that would tell you a dogs behavior is not DIRECTLY connected to the way it is raised. No rules - no structure = wild creature.

in most counties, if not all in california, it is 100% illegal to have your dog off leash unless it is in your yard or in an approved dog park. both parties are at fault here. bad owners = bad dogs= bad situations that should always be avoided by obeying the law. I have owned three of the dogs you speak off. Have you? I understand your position, but you are inaccurate with some of your statements. Seeing a lot of big, tough, dogs, has more to do with the attitude of the people in your area than the dogs. Chances are these people promote aggressive behavior also. The whipple case was an isolated incident, where two owners were shown to be sexually abusing the dogs (which they purchased from a guy they met in Jail). Hmm, thats not a typical way to raise an animal I would think. I can dig up a few instances of small toy dogs killing babies. How many people were killed last ten year by the breed of dog that killed Whipple? Its a freak accident.
There are tens of thousands of people who never have a single problem with all the digs you listed. And the fact remains that more people are killed by sharks each year than dogs. You're simply exaggerating.

I am a dog lover so don't get me wrong, but it's a shame that people have exploited these breads and completely fucked them up. I used to know a lot of growers who bred these types of dogs to guard their guerrilla grow ops up in BC. My uncle bred dogs like this and they wouldn't harm a fly. He had two poodles and nearly 30 pitbulls and rotties, the fucking POODLE attacked me and nearly ripped out my fucking eye (still have a big scar). I was about 4 years old... the other dogs remained perfectly calm and never hurt a soul for the remainder of their lives.

i have never heard of a papillon killing children or regularly making news about this.
There is a reason dogs are banned and some breeds...the experts who know about them make the decisions and advise on laws.
They should be banned IMO maybe keep them in a zoo so they dont get extinct

Actually, in places where they have banned pits or other large breed dogs, dog related deaths have not gone down, they have remained the same and it has led to the reversal of some bans (like in the netherlands i believe). The owners are the responsible parties, not the dogs.

You don't need to ban the animals, you need to ban the owners. A lot of the people who get dogs like these in the UK, do so because they want to have a tough looking dog, so that they look tough themselves. It's just another thing on the list to be a 'hardman':-
1. Shaved head.
2. Late 90's BMW with rims.
3. Designer tracksuit.

no, i drive a toyota, stock rims (rims are the worst investment ever), no track suits, no jewelry, no tats, no piercings. I do have two pits and i work with the SPCA and a pit bull rescue group.

i had to do the suit to work everyday for a while a few years back when I did sales, god i hated that.

I don't mind....I'm not in sales, but I do work with a sales team sometimes. I love animals, and I don't care if it's a pitbull or a poodle. I'm not a guido and I'm not a cage fighter. I love the people who give my dog looks....meanwhile, their dog is going crazy and nipping at people. My dog is the most mild mannered animal around. My nephew hangs out with my dog all the time; my dog loves him.
