Title: diets dont work either
Post by: boonstack on January 16, 2009, 05:42:28 AM
"Athletes often comprise a large portion of the millions of individuals who wish to modify or diminish the fat stores in the body through the use of thousands of diets and hundreds of weight loss programs available to them. Considering there are over 30,000 published diets alone, it cannot help but be noticed that if one of them worked successfully over the long term, there would not be a need for the other 29,999."

quoted from "Nutrition for the Recreational Athlete"

Exactly because diets are never meant to be long term.

Diet without exercise does nothing. I wish people would understand that.

SO if you do a 8-12 week diet, what is the time period between 13-20 weeks called? Not dieting

Diet without exercise does nothing. I wish people would understand that.

exactly. Calorie restriction must be coupled with exercise and the two practies are synergistic

"Diets" as in "i only eat bananas for 8 weeks and will lose a lot of weight" are for idiots.

If you eat whole foods, very balanced nutrients you can simply lose fat (not just weight!!!) by eating less or build muscle by eating more. You don't need to limit yourself to a certain food alone. These diets are for fat girls that want to lose a lot of weight in a short time (mainly water and muscle) and then bounce back to fat in a few weeks.

Doing sports is obligatory, of course.

Thats a pretty clever quote....except for the fact that 30,000 diets probably DO work....it's people that don't follow them thats the problem.

BTW...gimmick diets and fad diets are NOT diets and shouldnt count

What is your definition & criteria of a 'working' diet? One follows 10 week diet - reaches their goal - and ......... then what?

Well, I guess a "working diet" would be one thats working...
 ;D

I consider a "diet", regulating food intake and eating the right foods....not eating lemon rines with tea for 12 weeks, or any of these other bullshit fad diets designed to make money.

I'm reminded of a quote a wise man once said.  "Fat peoples lack of will power is sickening"

no Chick. Diets never ever work .

because getting fat has to do with mindpattern.

the mind pattern of getting fat is insulating one's self from outside factors ...
until u change the mindpattern that got you there in the first place you will always fail dieting via self sabotaje

that's why people cannot "diet"....

FAULTY MIND PATTERN THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED.

I see a lot of people , maybe most in the fitnessindustry who unfortunately do not understand how we work as human beings.

How we think dictates who we are ...simple as that ....

STFU, nobody asked you for an opinion.

Also, it's not really that hard to pay for an apartment if you have sold a few stolen cars or deal steroids on the side.

I would def preffer luxury but I learned over the years to play it safe given my options ..that's all...big money don't turn me on as I am not willing to do what it takes to make big money. I'm just not built like that . So I'm at peace with myself :)

lol, that's a nice way of putting "I live in a shithole of a country where nothing is available and if it WAS available the gypsies would steal it right out of my hands".

I would call that "socially-deducted modesty".

Every diet works - it's the people that don't stick to it.

Same could be said for Piano lessons - 1000 ways of getting yourself to play the piano but very few really master the art - thats due to people giving up and or simple talent
