Never thought I would say it, but nice job Georgie! 8)
He must feel good today, finally knowing what it feels like to act in the interest of the American people.

Wow...excellent! Absolutely appropriate. I don't have a lot of great things to say about Bush but this was a just decision! Props to the prez.

Read the wording used by the unnamed Bush administration official. I don't like it. I still don't think they did anything wrong. They were doing their jobs, protecting the US-Mexican border, and shot a guy illegally crossing with 800 lbs. of marijuana. Fault the laws if you want, but don't fault them. How did they "violate their oaths?"
Admittedly I've tried to read up on the case and may not be aware of all the facts but to me this stinks--I mean the fact that they were ever tried and convicted in the first place. But I suppose GWB gets some credit for commuting their sentences, but still, I don't like how the Bush official's statement is worded.
"The president has reviewed the circumstances of this case as a whole and the conditions of confinement and believes the sentences they received are too harsh and that they, and their families, have suffered enough for their crimes," a senior administration official said.
"Commuting their sentences does not diminish the seriousness of their crimes. Ramos and Compean are convicted felons who violated their oaths to uphold the law and have been severely punished," the official stated.
"This commutation gives them an opportunity to return to their families and communities, but both men will have to carry the burden of being convicted felons and the shame of violating their oaths for the rest of their lives."

Commuting is half ass in my opinion...who knows. Maybe bush only commuted the sentence for political reasons....does anyone know the ratio for mexicans who voted dem to repub? They killed a criminal but a mexican one at that.

Good job, George!!!
Thank God. I have been busting balls about this forever and have called every official I could. I called everyone under the son about this.

I am a pain in the ass and have no problem calling these politicians to try to get them to do right on things like this. Everyone should call on issues they find important. They work for us, not the other way around.

good

wow good job.

they must still spend 2 more months in prison.
no pardon.

actually i believe they where sentenced to like 11 or 12 years so if they are getting out now they where pardoned.

No, a pardon and having your sentence commuted are two different things.

touche, however they will be out of prison which im sure they are more than happy about
-
I still have no idea how a 12 year sentance is warranted. Perhaps we don't know the details of the crime, but if a drug smuggler was running from the border agents (with illegal drugs) trying to enter this country how could they be convicted for shooting them?

yeah. there was some questionable shit in their actions and statements - but they did plenty of time. I'd happily cap a few drug smuggling illegals, as would most of us. Theyr'e not coming here to work - they're here to spread poison.

they didn't report a shooting though. They don't belong in prison, but they don't belong at the border with rifles anymore.
