Title: The economy is so bad, how will the sluggish economy effect bodybuilding..
Post by: nicky.smth on January 19, 2009, 08:50:57 PM
How many shows will be canceled this year?

will the NY pro be held in a grammar school auditorium this year?

Speak on this

As a result, Nasser's book is going to be delayed for a year or two.  Nassers g4P fan club has also cut down on his services due to the economy and younger muscle men charging lower fees than the former Arnold classic winner

great thread bro.

You noticed the porn industry was hurt by the financial crisis..

Just imagine the bottom feeders of the bodybuilder industry, like Nasser..

Hopefully the government will bail out the Bodybuilding/g4p industry

Everyone is taking a hit these days.  Even Nassers products.  I wonder how Cutler's Hater Sunglasses are selling. Or what about Shawn Rays bandanas.  Sales must be down there too  :-\  Tuff times!

Yes, But jay has a Niche following..Jay will take a hit, cause you can only buy so many expensive Bottles of Gakic, and alcoholic halo every month. However, he has intangible assets that can make him money

However, Nasser is a bottom feeder of the bodybuilding industry..I reckon he'll take a bigger hit..The only asset nasser has is bigbobs, and he only makes 30k annually at some accounting firm

I think nasser will have to end up working at the San diego zoo..Putting the larger Animals back in the cages..

Come on now...I have a feeling the industry may fold this year...

I'm predicting attendance of less than 5,000 K total at the Olympia, Ironman, and all other shows combines

However, the Arnold will do OK..This is mainly cause of the other events, etc

Muscletech/weider will go under..the capital structure is to debt ridden and there cost to borrow is to expensive

say go buy to this industry

There are fewer shows, fewer webcasts, fewer ad dollars being spent.

IMO, that may be due to the oil spike to 146 a barrel last year.  Food shot up weeks later.  Supp suppliers got hurt, and raised their prices weeks later.

Oil went back down, but the suppcos had already dipped into their rainy day $, or went kaput.  I know my favorite company did sell out to another firm during this period.

Industry will be fine.  The ppl who attend the O have okay $.  They can fly to a beauty pagent in Vegas lol.. they're mostly upper mid class at the shows.  It'll be fine.  Won't be a great year, and the mags are all dealing with drama.  But supps are still selling.

I have been analyzing this industry for years..I made a ton shorting twin laboratories stock, etc..EAS, and others

I'm predicting that GNC goes out of business within 2 years. Muscle tech or whatever its name is currently files bankruptcy again and liquidates everything.

Weider/Ami won't be around for the next Olympia..

There won't be a major sponsor for the Olympia this year

Ami Weider are to leveraged on the print aspect of the industry, and sales are starting a hit with online media gaining more market share..Just look at tribune Co..

I'm predicting bodybuilding.com will become the major player in the industry..it looks like they will have to step up and sponsor the Olympia soon

They are also burdened with leveraged, which they won't be able to gain new finance.

it's a shame many of these supplement company's are private entities...i would have shorted their stocks until oblivion.

The supplement industry is doing fine. You will never run out of 16-25 year olds blowing their money.

gay men are not a significant part of the Olympia.  The Olympia is mostly an industry trade show, for people in the industry.

I never understood the Olympia expo.  All these supplement companies have booths at the expo, but their target audience, young males who buy supplements, aren't exactly the type to fly to Vegas for a weekend.

So you're saying that it is "straight" men showing up to watch the oiled up, men in trunks pageant?

sure, there are gays who are also in the industry, and gay guys may be more likely to go to a local show, but I don't think there are too many gays who fly cross country to the not very gay friendly city of Vegas to see 20 or so GH gut pros.  Now a contest like the Nationals, where you'd have a few hundred more aesthetically pleasing younger bodybuilders, especially when held in a gay friendly city like Miami Beach....
