Title: Religions of India
Post by: ATHEIST on January 21, 2009, 12:41:50 PM

A friend and i were debating the other day about the numerous religions in India. He said they were hundreds of religions in India and i disagreed. To my knowledge there are mainly 4 major reilgions, Hinduism being the vast majority at around 80%. Now im not including ramdom religions where some crazy guy just makes his own up. i was thinking more native religions. from my friends point of view there could be hundreds of religions in the US, but i again would disagree. who is more correct?

we saw Slumdog, it was vey good. sparked the conversation

India's only 13.4% Muslim yet they make up the majority of terrorists in that country. That's saying a whole lot!

I looked up the UK because I hear so much about muslims there but I was surprised to see this:

Christian (Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist) 71.6%, Muslim 2.7%, Hindu 1%, other 1.6%, unspecified or none 23.1% (2001 census)

Now I do see those numbers are from 2001.

France:

Roman Catholic 83%-88%, Protestant 2%, Jewish 1%, Muslim 5%-10%, unaffiliated 4%

(2003 numbers I think)

We had a driver recently telling us about where he originally lived (Netherlands) and what a huge presence there are of Muslims but that they don't integrate into society and haven't for 3 generations (or something like that) so I looked it up.   In this one I was surprised at the high percentage of "none".....but I believe he was in the "none" category!

Roman Catholic 30%, Dutch Reformed 11%, Calvinist 6%, other Protestant 3%, Muslim 5.8%, other 2.2%, none 42% (2006)
