Al-Qaeda cell killed by Black Death 'was developing biological weapons'
An al-Qaeda cell killed by the Black Death may have been developing biological weapons when it was infected, it has been reported.

Last Updated: 6:10PM GMT 20 Jan 2009

The group of 40 terrorists were reported to have been killed by the plague at a training camp in Algeria earlier this month.

It was initially believed that they could have caught the disease through fleas on rats attracted by poor living conditions in their forest hideout.

But there are now claims the cell was developing the disease as a weapon to use against western cities.

Experts said that the group was developing chemical and biological weapons.

Dr Igor Khrupinov, a biological weapons expert at Georgia University, told The Sun: "Al-Qaeda is known to experiment with biological weapons. And this group has direct communication with other cells around the world.

"Contagious diseases, like ebola and anthrax, occur in northern Africa. It makes sense that people are trying to use them against Western governments."

Dr Khrupinov, who was once a weapons adviser to the Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev, added: "Instead of using bombs, people with infectious diseases could be walking through cities."

It was reported last year that up to 100 potential terrorists had attempted to become postgraduate students in Britain in an attempt to use laboratories.

Ian Kearns, from the Institute for Public Policy Research, told the newspaper: "The biological weapons threat is not going away. We're not ready for it."

I never thought about it, but having kamakazi islamists self-infected with fatal diseases walking down the streets of every western cities until it spreads to unseen proportions in a very short amount of time makes sense.

they were killed by disease infested fleas.  Very similar to unit 731 type experiments that the japanese did on the chinese.  Plague fleas would devastate an underdeveloped and poor country as they are transmitted to rats, mice, etc...then to other parasites and then to humans...which would likely go untreated or overlooked long enough to make an impact.  Not really a threat to the US though.

The black death was a killer back in 500 years ago - nowadays western cities are too clean to support the carriers such as rats and fleas (these animals don't come in close proximity to humans as much). Besides you need to be bitten by the fleas and most people don't carry them. I would have thought something like ebola would have been a better bet.

You can rest assured we won't torture them.

They can spread ebola through our cities but we'll at least be able to claim the moral highground.

Hi 240! :D

haha F that.  The minute they bring that shit to my country, I'm picking them off one by one.  My complaint is the shoddy investigation of 911.  I love the USA and would cap terrorists all day, if they'd just give me unlimited ammo and maybe some gatorade in case I got thirsty.

if they use a biological weapon were fucked. there's no smell, taste or sight to bio weapons. by the time you can find out what it is and how to cure it were long gone.

The terrorists that were killed were sleeping in caves, perfect place for rodents and fleas.  Ny subways would be an ideal breeding ground with the number of rats, available food, etc...but the fleas would still not be likely to spread and start biting humans.  We are not really on their menu unless the conditions force them off their regular food supply of critters.
