I had a SLAP tear, torn rotator and grade 2 separation all in the same shoulder in 2000 but elected not to have surgery.

About 3 months of physical therapy before I started light lifting again, within 6 months i was training full steam.
There are a lot of reasons why i didn't have the surgery, the first being my orthopedist said if i wasn't in any pain, don't fuck with your shoulder. It's the most complex joint in the body and there is no gaurantee that surgery will improve it. Not to be a bragging asshole, but he said that my delts were very thick and the muscle is compensating for the instability of the joint, so i don't even realize how fucked up my shoulder really is.
The second reason i didn't have surgery is my daughter had just been born and I couldn't afford to be laid up for a year, although I did get PAID in the long run. But i left the medical open on my comp case so if I EVER decide to have the surgeries done, it's covered.
I don't know your exact situation but if it's improving, give it some time. If there are legal aspects involved, do what your Doc tells you.
