Title: Bobby Sly and Hollywood
Post by: Hunter86 on February 06, 2009, 12:28:13 AM
Who would you guys like to see portray Bobby Sly on the big screen adaptation of his life?  I'm already at work, trying to iron out the screen play.  I'm think something epic with at the very least an $80 million dollar budget.

Bruce Willis

He's got the cig control, the action film background, and knows his handguns.

Don Sutherland, Michael Douglas also get strong consideration.

Do you think Russell Crowe could pull it off?

Indeed, Sam Elliott would be a great Sly.   The only reason I still like Willis, is, I think that the great bobby sly taught Bruce everything he needed to know for the Die Hard series back in the day.  So it's a natural fit, character-wise.  Elliotts got the look down, though.

I'll repeat what I said about DeNiro on the other Sly thread:

I like Bobby Deniro as much as anybody, great actor, but he's no Robert Sylvester.  Sly isn't remotely Italian.... he's straight from the American heartland, a good ole boy who grew up playing baseball in the cornfields of Illinois, listening to St. Louis Cardinal games with his old man, just as he did with his sons later in life on their front porch on warm summer nights.  He loved hunting with bow and arrow, working on his pickup trucks, canoeing with his lovely daughters, and going on float trips on the Meramec River. And of course, he loved his day job for a decade of training bouncers at the Roughneck Saloon, Roadhouse style.

DeNiro enjoys a fine Chianti with chicken saltimbocca, while Sly eats his fried chicken and mashed potatos and gravy and chases it with a 6-pack of Bud.

Sorry, DeNiro is just too far a stretch to do justice to Bobby Sly in a hollywood epic.

good point although DeNiro wouldn't be my top choice there is no doubt that he would be able to bring the character to life and find within himself the good ole boy from the heartland thats needed to portray a legend like Bobby Sly.

Sam Elliot is a good shout. What about Daniel Day lewis? he can play the tough SOBs that bury their emotions and throw away the key. Gangs of New York and TWBB spring to mind.

Wouldn't rule out Tommy Lee Jones too.

we'd need to check with Bay to ensure the selected actor wasn't in "The Club".

Nothing against that group, but we're talking Bobby SLy's legacy here.  Nobody wants to see Jake Gyllejizm play him.

Maybe Bob Chick can be an extra in the Bobby Sly movie.  He can play the part of "Muscular gym guy #3."

No he could play Schmoe #3

he'd be one of 4 schmoes who come onto Bobby Sly, and ends up being the biggest mistake of their lives as Sly would proceed to beat the living shit out of all of them at the same time and as they all lay bloodied and bruised Bob would light up a smoke and just cooly walk away.
