Got a chance to sit in on the SC strength training today by invite from Coach Chris Carlisle. Watched the entire team as they were put through their paces from the dynamic warm ups, plyos, inside speed drills and finally weight training. Got to meet alot of the players, talked with Aaron Corps, Taylor Mays, Matt Meyer and Christian Topou, but most of all pick Coach Carlisle's brain on training. One of the things he said to me was that the NCAA rules have changed and that team training is limited to just 8 weeks of gym training and then discresionary training and during that time the Coach is NOT alowed to help nor write programs for any of the players although they can still have access to the weight room.

Unfortunatly these numbers will not be matched or beat anytime soon thanks to NCAA

Cool post Coach.
Troy P w/ 600 squat.
Fargas w/ 465 bench
Those are damn impressive.

Quick note on this, we were supposed to be outside for Speed and conditioning but due to the rain they moved inside for a modified workout. We were invited back next Friday to sit in on the speed and conditioning.

Coach, were you around the USC program in the late 80's?
-
And just think, if they played in a real conference -- they would more than likely have 3+ losses yearly ;)

most of those seem believeable, funny i thought when i clicked that link there would be all kinds of crazy 800 pound squats and 600 pound benches claimed but like i said most seem feasable, not sure about Polamalu's 430 bench but who knows, Seau's 455 bench is believeable.

No, I wish. This was the first opportunity to actually sit in on the program. Coach Carlisle was awesome and made me feel comfortable asking any question about the program. Before the they started he even did a quick intro for us to the team.

Couldn't agree more, Coach Carlisle was really frustrated when he talked about it. It came up when I asked him on how he set up his periodizations for the season, he said because of the NCAA rules, there is no periodization because there isn't enough time.
