BLOOMINGTON - Robert E. Sylvester Sr., 57, Bloomington, died at 10:14 p.m. Monday (Jan. 5, 2009) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
A celebration of life service will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the VFW Hall, Bloomington. Please deliver flowers to VFW Post 454, 1006 E. Lincoln St., Bloomington. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 14, 1951, in Normal, son of Lloyd and Cecile Morgan Sylvester. He married Dee Jennings on Sept. 8, 2006, at McLean. She survives.
Also surviving are son, Robert E. Sylvester Jr., El Paso; daughter, Mindy Sylvester, Chicago; two grandchildren, Brandyn Sylvester and McKenzie Sylvester; and brothers and sisters, Mary Lawson, Carl Sylvester, Ruth Decker and Sharon Thompson, all of Bloomington; Shirley Stinson and Linda Sylvester, both of South Dakota; Edith Schultz Redding, California; Donna Brooks, Heyworth; and Ron Sylvester, Shirley.
His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
He attended Crossroads Chapel, Bloomington, and was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 112.

Galesburg Bank Robbery Case Closed With Death of Suspect

Galesburg Police say they have closed the case on a bank robbery in October of 2006, but not because they have the suspect in custody.
Police say the suspect, 57 year old Robert Sylvester of Bloomington, was the same man shot and killed by police in Bloomington following an armed standoff January fifth. Police investigators say the determination was made when photos were circulated of the standoff, and were compared to an old police booking photo and surveillance video of the Associated Bank robbery.
Police reports from the 2006 robbery indicate Sylvester allegedly entered the Henderson Street branch and handed a teller a note demanding money, but didn't display a gun or indicate he had one, leaving the scene with $5,000 cash.
Reports say Galesburg investigators have since been in contact with Bloomington police and the F.B.I. on the matter, and say the investigation is now complete.
Sylvester allegedly robbed a check cashing facility in Bloomington, and was suspected in a string of robberies of other banks in that area in December.

Has anyone else noticed that Alex hasn't been the same since the passing of bobby. I know we are all very sadened by this tragic death but it seems like 50% of Alex's posts are tributes to Mr. Sly. thanks calfzy.... Bobby's incident made me think a lot about how good old "regular" hard working people are getting fucked by the system and losing everything.
A hard working man, a loving father who worked hard in the steel industry all his life and in a moment of desperation had to act to survive. That's how fucked up America is... but there are still heros like Sly amongst us...
otherwise, what else there is to talk about on getbig lately? What DisgustedSteele or drug ridden "tbunz" hate today? How shredded some oiled and speedoed dude's ass is?
