President Barack Obama’s struggle to push an economic stimulus bill through Congress may seem easy compared to what he’ll encounter when he returns to Capitol Hill for additional funds to rescue the banking system.

Obama will likely need to ask Congress for more money to recapitalize banks, as much as $1 trillion on top of the roughly $300 billion remaining in the current Troubled Asset Relief Program, according to an estimate by former Federal Reserve economist Ward McCarthy. That will be an even tougher sell for the new president than the stimulus plan, which is headed for a Senate vote this week after passing the House with no Republican support.

“The remaining TARP funds are not going to be enough for the job,” said McCarthy, who estimates that up to $1.5 trillion in government aid will be needed to save the banking system. “If they want to get the job done, they will have to scrape up more cash,” said McCarthy.

I have an idea to fix things... When the $ totally falls on its ass, we could form a union with Canada and Mexico and come up with something like the Euro.  Maybe call it the North American Union and call the currency, the Amero :D  Some conspiracy nut probably thinks things are being set in motion for just that :D

So who's opening a failing bank with me! I promise I will drive it to the ground very fast and get at least 200bil from the government!

You can't be in on it! You're a hard working Republican, the bailout is only for lazy democrats that get huge bonuses in their salaries just because were in the same dorm room as the CEO son.

With you the the bank might actually profit!

Man, this is horrible.

All the Tarp funds should have been granted only for lending in the first place (or not given at all).
See once we start gov handouts, they just don't end.

kinda makes sense why they where trying to rush the stimulus bill through...everybody should have known this was coming when obama said gave that stern talk about responsibility about the execs bonuses ::) and how it would only apply to new bail outs.
