Title: most valuable post on getbig i have made
Post by: boonstack on February 09, 2009, 06:29:21 AM
there are many of you who disregard what I say as nonsense, but, I believe many of my opinions on nutrition/workout are indeed logical and relevant. Some of you here are new, and some of you here are stuck in your ways, and the only resources you attain your information from are generally from muscle magazines and/or bb.com type websites written by amateurs and non-academic types. Im not claiming to have a phd in biochemistry - but much of what i say makes a whole lot more sense than what many think. Heres what i have learned and hopefully some of you can take these pieces of info and it can benefit you in your bodybuilding goals:

1-supplements: are total junk- and these companies (BSN, Huscletech, etc) depend on the publics ignorance to sell their products. Many of you look at the back of the boxes and read the info such as "Clinical Trials suggest" or "testimonials from clients" - guess what: Science does not USE testimonials! And WHAT CLINICS did they test these products in? Oh... you just take their word for it, right? Does unregulated mean anything to you?

2-High protein- and i mean this for natural bodybuilders, not juiced pros: Anything more than .7-1g of protein lb/bw is total waste. You cant force your body to use any more protein than it can! Those of you eating 30g's every 3 hours for a total of six meals a day are accomplishing nothing but a deficit in your check account. Do you honestly think 8 chicken breasts a day is gonna give you that edge over just 5? More is not better- more is a waste. IF you cant grow off 150g's of protein a day, you really think 40 more is the ticket huh?

3-Low carb- i dont get this. Carbs are protein sparing. The whole bb'ing and general community have such a brainwashed perception of carbohydrates that it is sickening. Simple and complex are two different things. I dont encourage eating candy, soft drinks, donuts etc- that is junk, processed food. But whole grain breads - sweet potato's, oatmeal - pasta - great for you! Carbs are for energy right? The more carbs you eat, the more energy you have. The more energy you have, the better your workouts are. The better your workouts are, the better you feel- and the more progress you make. And your brain central nervous system will thank you also for not depriving them of these essentials. You cant rationally think you will gain fat by eating a few more potato's or extra servings of oatmeal do you? give me a break As i said before - excess adipose tissue is acquired the dietary FAT- not clean carbs. Science says this btw, not a meathead from the gym who "heard" carbs were fattening

4-cardio- so many of you stay away from essential element of good health. Have you seen branch warren or jay cutler? These guys cant even hold a conversation without gasping for breath. How sad is that? They literally can not even jog for 1 minute straight. At least they have that plastic trophy though. If you do tabata type training, or HIIT 3 or 4 times a week, you will feel so much better! Much more effective at fat loss, and it takes only a portion of time as opposed to those that stay on treadmill 45 minutes to hour of low intensity.

dont apply this information if you are on: gh, slin, 2 grams test a week, deca, dbol, anti-e's, anavar, anadrol, winny, sust, or other factors contributing to good health. This is just for natural bodybuilders who care about themselves and health. Btw natties, the most realistic goal you can hope for in a years time if about 3-5 lbs of 100% pure lean muscle tissue. building muscle is a huge process.

If you wanna get ripped to the bone - just take 8 to 12 weeks (depending on your bf%) and follow a very strict diet, do cardio. Its the same, simple method each and every time.
moderate diet = moderate results
extreme diet = extreme results

peace

For the most part I like you boonstack but I do disagree with most of what you just said.  Some truths but you have it oversimplified.

This is what Bill Pearl has to say about protein in one of his interviews:

Q.You just mentioned that you take a good protein food supplement. What is the best type of protein a person can take, and how many grams should be taken per pound of a person's muscle bodyweight?

BP. The best type of protein a person can ingest is a milk-and-egg protein concentrate. The protein efficiency ratio [PER] in milk and eggs is the highest you can possibly get other than eggs itself, and the protein efficiency is just about like mother's milk, so it's just about the best concentrate you can consume.

I don't mean that you should go out and drink a gallon of milk and eat a ton of eggs. The manufactures of milk and egg protein concentrates have already extracted the protein and the amino acids from the milk and mixed it with the protein powder from eggs and so on. They came up with a real good product where there is zero fat in it almost all together.

Regarding your question about the grams of protein per pound of muscle bodyweight. I have done studies on this, and I've read more on protein than you can shake a stick at. If you're consuming 1/2 gram of protein per pound of muscle bodyweight regardless of how hard you train, that's all you need for repair and muscle growth; that's it. Any more than that will either be stored as fat or you can consume it as fuel. So if a person is taking 400 or 500 grams of protein a day, they're wasting their money and would be better off eating Hershey's candy bars, because they can be digested quicker.

On a side note, this was also quite interesting, about red meat:

Q. Did you ever have problems with your shoulder, elbow, and knee joints when you ate red meats?

BP. Yes, I did, and that is another reason I got off the red meats and became a lacto-ovo-vegetarian. When I changed my diet over, I had less and less joint problems. All the poisons found in your system such as uric acid . . . is going to be stored in the joints of the body if it can't be expelled through the kidneys or liver. I think you'll have less and less joint problems the longer you are off red meats, especially gland meats. I am really against organ meats such as liver. I think it is one of the worst foods you can consume, in my opinion

1 and 2 i totally agree with you.

On 3 i don't think you need that many carbs. Eat carbs, but overdoing any meal/calories and you won't be as good as you can. Better the body digests the food than pump it full of too much.
