of course it is to people who don't do it because they are afraid to lose. I understand where you are coming from. It is the kind of a response to counteract the embarrassment of losing to a smaller weaker person. Bodybuilding is much more masculine and manly, so you picked the right thing to follow. ::)

I competed and I promoted. In reality there are not many sports that are as manly or competitive as armwrestling. It is just one person against another person where strength and size does not always determine who wins. Technique play an important part. It is also something that you actually have to do to get better. Not sure if there is such a thing as a "natural" armwrestler. Unless you actually armwrestle and get the muscle and tendons conditioned to compete you aren't going to do very well. Most matches last under 5 seconds but sometimes there are some unreal matches. My longest match ever was 1 minute 24 seconds I think. There are not many sports where so much concentration, strength, speed, and technique are required for such a short amount of time. It is an awesome sport that really is exciting when seen in person. I always had first timers come up to me after a meet to tell me how exciting it was and they will see more.

I used to arm wrestle in local bar competitions back in the mid 90's, did pretty good for someone who was just doing it as a goof.

I used to think that arm wrestling was just a macho thing drunks did to show off in bars...until I tried it myself. Technique/explosive power/adaptation play such a huge part, all in a few seconds. When I see guys like Breznk/Vovoeda, etc., who are on top of the game...it's really impressive. What you said about tendon strength and conditioning is so true, the only way to get better is to get on that table and do it over and over. I do arm wrestling training as a side to lifting, and it's really fun learning...getting my ass handed to me by smaller guys and beating guys bigger and stronger. Guys who are into it seriously tend to be really cool and supportive, too.

some arm wrestlers have impressive arms remembering years ago an oldtime aw named kennedy one arm curling 150 lbs on a preacher bench using an ez curl bar. pretty impressive.
-
Something Lee Preist should get into. He has the damn forearms for it. Just needs to condition the tendons as was said before.

I used to go around the country and promote Over The Top events. I owned 1/3 of the IAC which was the consulting organization for the movie Over The top. There were a few events where then world Champion Dot Jones was there. She was 6'3 and weighed about 220. She could kick most guys asses. This event was in Ft. Worth, TX and we had about 8,000 people watching. It was great. We even promoted Stallone was going to be there and hired a look-a-like to sit in a limo. I would put an ammonia inhalant in each nostril and then bust them and breathe in really deep. It would fire me up.
