U ever trained @ mustis gym? Was pretty hardcore too, great place to train.
Goudys gym looks similar, small and hardcore.
-
wish i had a gym like that. all fancy health bullshit here.
-
Ouch! A place that looks like that has just gotta have the tunes cranked. :)
-
Looks good Goudy,
What drugs are you on?
-
please replace all plates and dumbells after use. Thank you :)
I'd be afraid the welds on that leg press would break causing it to cut me in half. :o
-
looking grainy goudy.
-
Good stuff man.
Fucking hardcore!

-
Looks good Goudy,
What drugs are you on?
I am natural my friend.
Cheers Mars
Gym is great. Arnie trained there in 1968/9 i believe.
Haha the weights and equitment were built in Harland & Wolffe, where the titanic was built, handmade 50years ago.
If they were gonna snap they should have snapped by now lol...but yes i was leg pressing today and had to do it in socks as the platform you press your feet with was moist with dew and was slippy lol
-
Hard to the core! :-*
-
cool looking gym.
-
the patrons range from 15 to 82 :)
although from time to time older people come in for haircuts or coffee. The oldest current trainer is a guy called Maxie and he is 82
-
i assume it's free to train there, cause nobody is going to pay for this seriously.
-
Huge arm Goudy, what's your current weight?
-
All the way dirty substandard gym equipment.
-
its free for us, you would have to pay though.
20 pounds a month it is. Cash..no debit cards contracts bullshit
I am still around 231lbs wavelength...not being able to train chest and losing size of it means had i been able to i may have been 232 now lol
-
Good looking gym Goudy - the sort of place I can get lost in the moment in.
Decent size to the arm too - how big is it?
-
its free for us, you would have to pay though.

What's the problem with chest? I can't train chest either, injury.
-
Old school cool. That angled leg press must be a pain to load/unload.

if someone gets hurt, how does the owner manages it without a signed contract/warranty ?

and to use.

a contract can be oral, written or through conduct. You are given a monthly paper membership card. he also keeps a copy for himself.
If you get hurt you put a plaster on rest until its better then come back down. No need to sue for everything.
pec/armpic area was fucked badly...seems almost better enoughto train though i am waiting till monday just to be safe and benching a onster 200lbs 5x5 hopefully lol if i can.
That angled leg press is a fucking curse to load espec when plates are cold and damp they freeze together lol. Some stronger guiys load a barbell across it to add extra weight
-
I trained in a gym with a leg press like that a few years ago - your fingers get a workout just from loading and unloading the damn thing.
-
Cool, dude. Reminds me of this joint I used to train at when I was a kid...I can also see how those stupid "tap out" fuckers could get in your way. >:(
-
just like my ymca in pittsburgh in the 70s
no women though. i like to exercise my eyes as well
-
Very cool, the basics and all you need to grow!
Where is it located?
-
If they were gonna snap they should have snapped by now lol...but yes i was leg pressing today and had to do it in socks as the platform you press your feet with was moist with dew and was slippy lol
Honestly, you get the award for most hardcore getbigger.
I don't think anyone would disagree.
;D

In Belfast, Ireland
Basics are all thats needed

When I look at those pics I hear Flogging Molly playing in my head!
-
haha my mate made a training video and put flogging molly to it lol
-
lol back to the future, dude its time to goto a real new gym with nice stuff, you would be suprised how nice it is to have a new cardio equitment, pool steam room for after workout sessions etc,
-
Why would anyone choose to train in a filthy outdated shithole?
-
mixed sauna is a must, I would agree to that :D
-
Nothing wrong with old equipment but looks like a bunch of lazy fucks workout there. Nobody seems to pick shit up. Looks crowded too. But the old school equipment is cool and all you need! 20 pounds a month? LOL what a scam though! I'd pay 5 pounds a month for a place like that. I pay $40 a month for a brand new commerical gym here in the US.

100lb metal 50yr old dumbells weigh the same as 100lb rubber coated dumbells.
Plus its so convenient, 3 inute walk from my work. i train then dander around to work.
It is old and rusty but not that dirty.
The owner and the only staff member is a 71yr old man. No point in him trying to tidy as 30mins later its a mess again though occassionally ill tidy up weights and he tidy's up before hometime

That's my point. People should be cleaning up after themselves. I see that shit all the time in the gyms I've belonged to. It's laziness and if I owned a gym I'd get on people about it.
-
Its easier for plates to be scattered all over the place than in one corner. E.g if someone is on the incline bench and teh plates are up near dumbells carrying plates would be a pain in the ass.
I wont lie i leave plates at my ass but at least not in the middle of where people walk. I dont leave dumbells lying about though
-

In that gym there is too little storage room for all the weights though. I understand what you mean in other gyms that do have the space for proper storage of weights. I hate when people leave bars loaded
-
what shitty country is that gym in?
-
Ireland.
Correct its too small and at peak times far to busy to walk around.

Goudy- Do any members of the IRA train there?
-
I am sure over the years IRA, INLA CIRA PIRA, UDA LVF and UFF members have trainer there
-
Goudy you should read the book "The Irish Origins of Civilization" by Michael Tsarion. You'd enjoy it. Great read!
-
What I only had euros -- could I pay ito be a member?
-
haha im sure you could my friend
-
if i was still into hard training, i would love a place like that!
-
I'd be afraid the welds on that leg press would break causing it to cut me in half. :o
ya agreed, i was gonna say that leg press doesnt look safe at all, reminds me of the leg press machines they have at Usa gym in Bridgeview,IL.

So...much...win...
-
here in canada i see old machines and free weights looking exactly like the stuff in your gym (from the 60/70'S) going on classified ads websites for almost nothing. I got an old sited calf raise machine and plates for very cheap.
-
yea these are from teh early 60's

I am natural my friend.

maybe staple gun an old towel or piece of scrap carpet to the foot plate would help with the dew...
-
That looks like the gym I used to train at, no machines, no fancy electric gizmo's, just shitloads of metal handmade years ago. I miss training at that place. Although it was never as messy as that. There was some weird guy who used to come in and he never worked out, he'd just put all the plates and dumbells back in place for a few hours then leave.
-
gyms looks kinda shitty man.
do you have a job?
-
maybe staple gun an old towel or piece of scrap carpet to the foot plate would help with the dew...
so simply but would work a treat
gyms looks kinda shitty man.
do you have a job?
i have 2 jobs. There are millionaires who train there. There are also alcoholics. So many facets of socirty inder one roof its unreal
-
seems too small, if more than 5 people where there, it would be a clusterfuck!
-
10 people can train easily. 15 is ok as long as not too mnay are at dumbell area
-
Sweet gym right there.
Just make sure you have all your shots, Goudy. Those weights look pretty rusty.
-
haha it has strengthed my immune system no doubt ;D
-
lol back to the future, dude its time to goto a real new gym with nice stuff, you would be suprised how nice it is to have a new cardio equitment, pool steam room for after workout sessions etc,
All right cream puff, whatever you say. They probably don't even have valet parking there. >:(
-
looks like the 70 gym good way to start a gym! congrats Goudy

Looks like a reminisce of the gyms from the Golden Era.
-
Like the gym Goudy,no doubt there are many characters there...i'll get pics of my gym tomorrow, its in south of Ireland...Waterford
-
Old school = the best.
-
shit

-
shit

;D
-
I like it! :D Every real gym should look like this; a sober place with some basic benches and lots of olympic barbells, plates and dumbells and no bullshit like fitness people, TV screens or a fancy lounge bar
-
Do any girls train ther Goudy?? I think out of 250 or so members,we have like 5 girls in our gym :o
-
Brutal forearms ;D
-
Why would anyone choose to train in a filthy outdated shithole?
Maybe Goudy doesn't like those woman types messing up his workout with their cardio and their abductor/adductor machines.
-

Not a single woman in my old gym. One chick came in one day to pick her husband up, and I swear every guy in the place just stared at her until she left.

Everyone sucks in their gut when a female enters my gym

that gym is a complete shithole :o i expect to see bums sleeping in the corner and swigging out of wine bottles in paper bags
-
Good hardcore gym 8)
-
where is ronnie coleman and branch warren?
-
-
please replace all plates and dumbells after use. Thank you :)
What's with all the punching bags in the middle of the gym? Do members like to get in a few rounds of boxing in between sets?
-
lots do cardio on teh bags.
No girls at all! thought that coudl change...
a few wanted to train there. around 150 regulars and no women. women do call in but often get oggled lol

Well if you ever do get a girl there and you hook up with her and give her an STD, you can tell her she got it from the rowing machine.
-
haha
if i ever get hold of a girl down there may god have mercy on her soul!

Gym equipment can be good even if old. However, modern equipment works so much better than the old stuff. Who here would use that leg extension-leg curl? I haven't seen one like that for decades. The leg press and hack squat are primitive and probably need new wheels. Most good machines use linear bearings nowadays. If equipment is smooth then that is half the battle. There is no excuse for the extremely bent bar on the Smith machine. They need plenty of racks and more plates.
Benches and squat racks should have safety stops. Upholstery should be replaced when holes are in them both to protect the padding and for health reasons.
Tell the owner to look for used equipment from auctions when gyms close. Even equipment 5 or 10 years old can be cheap to buy. If they replace one piece of equipment every 3 months they will have a much better gym in a couple of years. I see no point in keeping old equipment just because it is old. I have seen a couple of gyms like that in Sydney. I told one owner that he had a museum because the equipment was primitive and from different builders. The comment wasn't appreciated. Of course, I design and build most of our gym equipment and still have trouble keeping up with requests for new and different equipment.
From the photos it seems the owners never reinvested much at all in the premises and equipment.
-
Nip on down to the pub for a schemey tea after a workout.
-
there are so many plates its insane. always plates lying about and more than could be used at once.
for teh peoepl that train there its suiots them. for fancy gym and trainers there are plenty of those also.
its just a spit and sawdust gym. no frills. no thrills. just weights.
weight is weight no matter what. plus they have lasted 50years no rpoblem. BTW those machins are smooth as hell believe it or not
-
Is the Smith machine still smooth? It would be dangerous to use with that bent bar.
As long as equipment pivots in the right place it should be fine. Arnold and others built themselves up on primitive equipment. Most of the equipment there seems to suit taller individuals as there aren't many adjustments for leg length, etc. Not good enough in today's commercial gyms. No wonder women haven't joined.
-
women cant join. only one changing room.
it suits shorter people to be honest
it is old and rough looking but many great physiques have been built there

Did I see a picture of you in the new Reps magazine?
It looks like you with Larry Scott back in the day.
-
Chuck still own that gym? and is it still across from the FD?
That was a bad ass gym.
Yes he does. Where its at now is a new location, its in the middle of an industrial/warehouse area, i believe its literally a few buildings down from where it use to be. From what i heard where it originally was, was pretty big, could land a plane in there. Its about an hour from where i live, so ive been there only 1 time but i agree its a bad ass gym and definately worth the drive. Im all about finding little hole in the wall, hardcore gyms, even if its an hour or more drive. Ive been all over chicago/burbs just to train at a hardcore gym.
-

I don't get Reps magazine so wouldn't know. Larry Scott gave a seminar at my gym in 1979. The best seminar anyone has given in Sydney in my opinion. His arms were still big then and he even competed again after that but didn't place. Robert Nailon took a photo of Larry and me with the painting Robert did of Larry posing. Robert made Larry look even bigger than he was. I will have to find that photo somewhere.

goudy,

-
MRSA
-
That's my kind of place.
-
Did i miss the name of the gym and where it is? Australia?
-
Its called Centaur Health Studio and is in Belfast, Ireland
-
I done arms today though was not pumped at this stage
-
Goudy, if I went to Ireland, would girls instantly get wet at the sound of my American accent? Thanks.
-
they would definately find you interesting unless you are an american tourist who wears a bumbag and has a camera around their neck with sandals and white socks.
if not then yes...yes they would
