Title: preacher curls

i was reading in some of the other threads that fully extending isnt good for this particular movement as it may cause injury...any thoughts?  i find that going all the way down but not coming all the way up thus keeping tension on the bicep the entire time works well for me

There's a point your reach on the way down where the muscle is adequately stretched.  Going further may stretch the muscle a little more, but will also put excess tension on the tendons.  Therefore it's probably safer to stop a couple of inches from the bottom, instead of risking tweaking a tendon and causing an injury.

Agreed, stopping a couple of inches short of the bottom helps in 2 ways-it's alot easier on the connective tissues and secondly it focuses the ROM on the part that is more effective for growth, IMO.

Since there are no standards for preacher curls you have to be carefull.  Some benches at full extension leaves you very vulnerable to injury. It's the angle of the bench at full extension that could leave your bicep in a very vulnerable position due to the lever angle.   I have heard that next to deadlifts the preacher curls are responsible for many bicep tears.  This is one exercise that I would make sure I didn't do any jerking in the extended position. IMHO.

another problem is that you see too many jackasses load the bar with a 45 per side and even more and try to do reps with that type of weight swinging and jerking around, no reason to use huge weight on preachers, 70-80 pounds for a good amount of reps should be fine.

I favor db preachers...... I like the fact that each arm is working independently and also I am able to self spot with my free hand..... if need be.

good point...i like supersetting hammer preacher curls with dumbell hammer curls
