Title: Rev up your metabolism
Post by: calfzilla on February 20, 2009, 12:00:48 PM
Can we start a thread where we give various ways of increasing our metabolisms?  Both thru food, exercise, and other techniques.

Very important, especially for the natural lifter who wants to add size while staying lean.

Cardio upon waking is a good way to kickstart your metabolism and make u hungry all day.

Lots of small meals/snacks instead of loading up on a huge calorie meal. Doesn't have to be particularly clean either.

once you start craving foods every few hours like clockwork, once ur body temp increases, u know ur metablism is getting faster.

This is exactly how I was in high school, not long back, and I was always fuckin lean.  Somewhere in the last 1-2 years I lost my way abit and changed what was working.

Back then I was eating 8-9 small meals, mostly high carb, moderate fat, low/moderate protein.  I would constantly snack during classes, and yep my body temp was always super high.  Just always eating biscuits, almonds, chips, but never in large amounts at once.

agreed that meal timing is the key.  i eat about nine times a day to keep the metabolism going...small portion, single ingredient items.   home cooking all the way.

HIIT works really well and allows the runner to keep muscle mass.  I know studies have been done to disprove the theory but lifting and/or doing cadio on an empty stomach has been known to seriously decrease fat content.

Giant sets will kick your ass too.

I've been doing giant sets for about 3 months now and am loving the increase in mass + loss of fat.  Definitely revs up the metabolism.

Good post - this kind of explains why I always feel boiling hot all the time - my metabolism much be incredibly fast as I'm maintaining my weight on about 5,000 calories a day at the moment. I'm sitting here at work sweating like a pig just doing nothing.

Higher rep (as 12 t0 20) squats, Dl's and cleans will ramp up the metabolism big time. Throw in some clean & jerks and snatches also.

The appetite should  increase for those 6 smallish meals every day. Your body will be working at a higher level and demand more food. Just try to keep the eating in a positive range, no use stuffing yourself with a lot of not needed  calories that can turn to fat. Find the best calorie range for you. Might be 3,500, 4,000 or 5,000 plus a day. With all of the above, the metabolism should be primed for muscle growth. Good Luck.

Amen to that.
20 rep squats are my favourite for doing the job.

5x15 squats for sure are my favorite! I follow the cardio on an almost empty stomach theory, but always take in carbs and protein before lifting. I have never been so lean. I also used to be a major fat ass before reading and joining this site.

Yeah I never knew why I was crazy hot all the time, even in winter.  At least it saved me money on jumpers. :P

What's your diet looking like? If I remember correctly, you eat heaps of carbs, that's the key imo.

Yeah the high rep squats work great, also today supersetted high pulls with high rep deadlifts.

I don't need to take in many calories due to my slow metabolism. I'll bet I could easily get by on 2500 calories.
I have a friend who is strong but very light boned.

He could eat 5000 calories a day and might actually lose weight.

very strong deadlifter though. 465 deadlift @ 150 lbs.

I am not fooling around though..... he could eat nothing but nachos, donuts, cheese pizza...... drink pepsi and beer for days on end and not gain one pound.
