Title: Waxy Maize myth
Post by: Van_Bilderass on February 21, 2009, 01:08:12 PM
Seems like this topic has blown up on a few forums recently.

Here's the article that started the discussions

I always wondered why "Troponin" and others said Waxy Maize was a low GI carb that didn't spike insulin, yet was faster than maltodextrin and dextrose in restoring glycogen.

Now I know why. Seems like it IS slow. The problem was that they were also comparing it to Vitargo, thinking it was basically the same, and using those studies too to promote it. It didn't make sense to me that WM was fast in restoring glycogen and increasing blood glucose, yet low GI while not spiking insulin.

If you're using WM take a look at the bb.com article.

[ FAQ ] I am mad about the presentation of this information. Does that make me a moron?

No, just human. You're experiencing something called cognitive dissonance or true-believer syndrome, both of which are natural psychological phenomena. In time, reason should prevail, but for now it's important enough to recognize that your judgment is being affected.

 Cognitive Dissonance & True-Believer Syndrome:
Cognitive dissonance is an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously. The "ideas" or "cognitions" in question may include attitudes and beliefs, and also the awareness of one's behavior.

True-believer syndrome is a term coined by M. Lamar Keene in his 1976 book The Psychic Mafia. Keene used the term to refer to people who continued to believe in a paranormal event or phenomenon even after it had been proven to have been staged.

I saw a similar article on MD.com regarding WM.  I stopped using it a while ago, not because of this, but I switched over to using Karbolyn because WM was bloating me a bit.
