At any rate I don't give a shit, he was in the Incredible Hulk and that was one of my earliest favorite shows...right alongside Dukes of Hazzard. ;D

He makes a good point. He sells pictures at certain conventions to make money. OF COURSE, he doesn't want people to take pics of him for free (neither would any other bodybuilder who was doing the same). That's not smart for business purposes.

Right but that's not the only way he makes money. He makes TV appearances and gets residuals if/when Hulk reruns. Therefore he can afford to give out a free autograph to kids etc. He doesn't need to be anal about charging for everything he signs or even posing for a random pic with a fan.

It is interesting that both magazines came out at the same time with a cover of Lou Ferrigno, but keep in mind, that Lou was on contract with Weider Publications for years, and just in the past 3 or 4 months, they opted out of the contact. So now, anyone can interview Lou.
I am not fond of Lou telling people they cant even take a picture with them unless they pay him $20. That is just not cool. Not evern major actors do that.
However, in certain conventions, a lot of actors do charge $20 or more for an autograph, for a signed picture, etc, and I am no problem with that. But to tell a kid no pictures unless someone pays $20 for it -
I still remember I brought some friends at the Olympia expo, and Lou was there. They were excited, went up to say hello, but came away vastly disappointed when he said it would be $20 to take a picture with him.
Granted, he is the second most well known bodybuilder in our industry after Arnold. And granted, many stars in Hollywood act like that.

That’s like saying you can stay in Trump Plaza for free, just because Donald Trump makes money from his other business ventures. Ferrigno is there on business.
Plus, as Ferrigno stated in that MD interview, he does plenty of free pics at other outings, including charity events and hospital visits. He also claimed that the particular child in question was sent by his parents to get a free pic, so that they wouldn't have to pay for one.
This sounds eerily like the whole capitalism vs. socialism arguments that have come to the forefront, as of late. You don't dictate to Ferrigno (or any other businessman) to whom he should or shouldn't give free pictures or any items, for that matter.
It’s almost in the same light as people who criticized Joe Weider for having his bodybuilders, exclusively for his magazines.
I remember a mid-90s interview that MuscleMag did with Weider, in which the journalist asked the Master Blaster why he did that. Weider’s response was that, if the other magazines wanted an athlete that badly, they should negotiate with him, split the costs, and they’ll share the rights to that guy.
Then, Weider asked, “If you ran a business, would you pay someone’s salary and have them work for somebody else?” The guy sheepishly answered, “Well….no!”

I don't know about the green paint thing and don't really care, as that's not this issue here. The "cheapness" here is simply a business thing. Some people act as if they're entitled to free pics from Ferrigno, just because he's rich (or, at least, well-to-do financially) from his past/present acting jobs. As I said, you are no more entitled to a free pic from Ferrigno than a wrestling fan is entitled to free WrestleMania tickets from Vince McMahon.

As for Ferrigno, there's this little thing called, "Getting both sides of the story" before forming an opinion (one way or the other). If Ferrigno is a jerk, it's not because he's charging for pictures at a convention, where he (along with other bodybuilders) are SELLING PICTURES.
It's called business.
But, that particular issue is one for which he gets criticized more than any other. We've heard all the critics, here and elsewhere, some of whom make good points. Now, it's time to get Lou's side of the story. And, he's made some good points.

The point is, genius, if people are SELLING ITEMS to make profit, they are not obligated to give them away for free (regardless of whether or not they have income from other sources).
As stated earlier, other bodybuilders (who aren't as as off as Ferrigno) suffer as well, because people think that they're entitled to free pics from them, too. If selling photos is part of how they make a living, they're going to get hit financially.

When I worked at Chippendales 15 years ago,
you were charged after the show to take pics with
the dancers. But the Dancers couldn't work for a competitor
and were paid a shitty salary, but made good $$ on the tips and pics.

Come again??? The WWE spends money for autographed pictures and sells them for profit. In other words, the company has made the investment, not the superstars themselves. John Cena, for example, can have all of the free snapshots taken of him he wants, because he doesn't pay the costs to have the autographed ones of him produced.

I thought it was due to his being the 2nd most-recognizable competitor in bodybuilding history.
The other magazines have been eager to hear more about this legendary figure, and now that his near-iron-clad contract with Weider is done, they’re hopping on the bandwagon. MD and IronMan are already on board; MuscleMag won’t be too far behind.

Arnold Schwarzenegger said it best at last year's Arnold Classic during the opening ceremony when he announced those in the auditorium and asked, "Where's Lou?" And followed it up with a sarcastic, "Oh, he must be outside charging for pictures!" :D
Needless to say, the whole crowd erupted in laughter! If anyone finds a YouTube clip that exists from it please post it. Classic Arnold owing!

I met Lou ferrigno in october of 1993 when he guest posed 3 weeks after the 93 olympia. I asked him if he knew how ed corney was doing. Lou said he saw him a few weeks ago and was doing great.I bought a picture for $10. He also was in great shape!! Now here is where it gets weird. Mike materazzo also guest posed and brought the house down . When Lou came out his music sucked and he wasn't exactly getting an ovation. He gets pissed off and flips off the crowd. Lou leaves halfway through his routine!!! The emcee just stood there like "now what". After the crowd "begged" him to comeback, lou finishes and tells the crowd " i love you". Swear to god this is true. I also found out that the hotel the promoters booked for him wasn't good enough for lou. He wanted a 4 star hotel and room service to bring him chicken breasts. The promoters gave in. Oh well, when your a "HUGE STAR" you can pull that bullshit.
