Good question. The competitors probably scout the venue ahead of time...checking lighting, backdrop color, etc... then it's off to the sparkling thong store!

Dude, I'm not implying any gheyness in this thread, to be honest I was always curious what compelled bb'ers to go with certain colors/trunks. In retrospect it does seem that lighting and skin color/tan might have a lot to do with choice.

Sparkly thongs are harder to decide on than the matte options. I just you just have to follow your heart.

Most of them dont do anything but contact CJ, who's been in the business for many years, and caters to the men and women of the IFBB to provide trunks/ bikini's custom made (and usually free of charge)...
She's probabaly THEE most important person backstage, as I've seen her come to the rescue many a time to the women (for the most part) who have wardrobe malfunctions...
So here's the recap for you;

She ask's your height and weight
You explain how you like them to fit
She ask's if there is any color you like in particular
She fed-ex's them to you

No no no bro, I didn't ask WHERE they get their trunks, (cool of you to post the info though) I was saying WHAT CRITERIA PEOPLE USE TO PICK THEIR TRUNKS ... ie. why someone wears RED trunks to a show like the Ironman and Silver to the Olympia for example!! :)

seriously, i read in Arnold's book that dark colors make the waist look smaller. And he said something about skin tone? ???
