I think this would eliminate the catabolism that occurs each evening as we starve ourselves for 8 hours with sleep.
is this practice feasible?

it's called TPN, Total Parenteral Nutrition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_parenteral_nutrition), used to provide nutrition to people who are unable to eat because of cancer or other diseases. It requires a catheter. the problem is that its irritating as hell on the artery the catheter is feeding into.

Are you going to do this after your full body ice down after your 1 hour workout? ;D ;)

nah, lifting actually releases too much cortisol you know

a 1000 cc bag of TPN runs around 500$. I think protein powder is a better option. Plus TPN tends to make people diabetic over time. TPN is a great option if you can't digest food on your own. Getting a PEG is a better option then in this case. Just run your protein powder in while you sleep. Of course a PEG is a tube that connects your stomach to the outside world. So it might be a little disturbing when going onstage. ::)

You are mistaken, the catheter always ALWAYS goes in a vein. Arteries are deep and easily rupture if an IV is placed into it.

in 1994 I was primary care giver and poa for a friend at end stage. his doctors told him to go home and make his peace. he insisted on TPN. he had a catheter into his aorta in his chest. every night for 3 months I hooked him up to the part of the catheter that hung outside his body. when he finally went into a coma, he weighed 80 pounds at 6'. the worst part, he told his family nothing of what was going on, so that all fell onto me. then they wanted to collect up his things. I told him he got rid of everything, every piece of clothing, every photo, memento. they saw me as the bad guy. the only thing he had to show for his life was a $300k life insurance in his mom's name, his 78 year old mom who owned a dairy farm in Ohio.

Catabolism doesn't occur when you sleep.

The 300k should have gone to you my friend for helping him out as you did. That is quite commendable and I could only imagine the horror you went through with him.

there are many more medicines today. it is very rare to die of wasting today, unless there is some secondary cause, like Hep C, or crystal meth addiction

no, it was a casual friend , someone I really only knew from the gym, who was deeply scared from sexual abuse from his long dead father. I became his primary care provider because he truly had no one else, and would have otherwise ended up in a county nursing home, a truly awful facility with 4 crammed into a room where you were expected to just stay in bed all day waiting to die. the facility was about half young gay guys and half russian immigrants suffering from dementia and Alzheimer.

I remember reading a rumor that was going around, about 2001 or so, that Ronnie had an IV drip running at home, with various hormones and stuff... ;D
