Gingrich Floats Possibility of 2012 Presidential RunFormer House Speaker Newt Gingrich says he's seriously considering a 2012 run, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday he'd seriously consider running for president in 2012.
With the mantle of the Republican Party still unclaimed, Gingrich told reporters in Ashland, Va., before a speech to Randolph-Macon College that he and his family would examine the political environment in early 2011, and "look seriously at whether or not we think it's necessary to do it."
"And if we think it's necessary we'll probably do it. And if it isn't necessary we probably won't do it," he said, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Gingrich is one of several potential candidates talked about as the GOP struggles to grow its numbers following huge defeats in the 2006 and 2008 elections.
Gingrich placed fifth, with 10 percent, in a straw poll of possible 2012 candidates over the weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

You best cross your fingers and hope.
-
Snowball. Chance. Hell.
-
If he sees that things are bad enough he just might for the good of the party. I hope he does.
-
newt was the only guy with the honesty to call the 2008 republican group a bunch of bums.
Won't be long til he chin-checks Rush and re-takes the reigns of the party.
-
Newt/Crist would be nearly impossible to beat by anyone.
-
There's a higher probability of predicting the weather 4 years from now than predicting an election

Newt/Crist would be nearly impossible to beat by anyone.
but but but but but but but
Palin is sooooooooooo smart.
and Jindal is sooooooooooooooo ready on foreign policy.
please please please please please please can't they win? ???

newt would probably do VERY well in a debate against Obama.

WWWHYYYY???
The list is long but people focus on style over substance. Newt has more good ideas in one finger than Obama could ever dream to come up with.
Newt is a mental giant.
-
newt is one of the smartest people in DC.
Obama is very smart. Hilary is smart. Mitt is smart. Ron paul is smart.
Edwards, Richardson, Rudy, Thompson, Mccain, Palin = list of people who aren't real intellectuals.
Newt is very intelligent. I think he would be a GREAT person to put some screws to iran and russia and other countries.

No doubt that Newt is smart but he's also a neocon and a far right wing radical. His ideas are old and his time has passed.

Please run, Newt! ;D

Methinks newt is smart enough to tone down the bush rhetoric, poll exactly what 51% of americans want to hear, and then trumpet it with his own conservative filter.

I'm a little hung up on his hypocrisy in the Clinton impeachment scandal. I think he forfeited his right to hold public office.
He's definitely qualified and I think he would be a good president, but I'm not sure I could get past his conduct.

He was making the same rumblings 2 years ago and didn't run
I wonder why?
Maybe he couldn't raise the money. Maybe he know's he's poison and he would never survive public scrutiny.
Maybe it's because he sounds like this guy

May 2nd, 2007
WASHINGTON - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich acknowledged he was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.
“The honest answer is yes,” Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. “There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There’s certainly times when I’ve fallen short of God’s standards.”
Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton’s infidelity.
“The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge,” the former Georgia congressman said of Clinton’s 1998 House impeachment on perjury and obstruction of justice charges. “I drew a line in my mind that said, ‘Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept … perjury in your highest officials.”
Widely considered a mastermind of the Republican revolution that swept Congress in the 1994 elections, Gingrich remains wildly popular among many conservatives. He has repeatedly placed near the top of Republican presidential polls recently, even though he has not formed a campaign.
Gingrich has said he is waiting to see how the Republican field shapes up before deciding in the fall whether to run.
Reports of extramarital affairs have dogged him for years as a result of two messy divorces, but he has refused to discuss them publicly.
Gingrich, who frequently campaigned on family values issues, divorced his second wife, Marianne, in 2000 after his attorneys acknowledged Gingrich’s relationship with his current wife, Callista Bisek, a former congressional aide more than 20 years younger than he is.
His first marriage, to his former high school geometry teacher, Jackie Battley, ended in divorce in 1981. Although Gingrich has said he doesn’t remember it, Battley has said Gingrich discussed divorce terms with her while she was recuperating in the hospital from cancer surgery.
Gingrich married Marianne months after the divorce.
“There were times when I was praying and when I felt I was doing things that were wrong. But I was still doing them,” he said in the interview. “I look back on those as periods of weakness and periods that I’m … not proud of.”
Gingrich’s congressional career ended in 1998 when he abruptly resigned from Congress after poor showings from Republicans in elections and after being reprimanded by the House ethics panel over charges that he used tax-exempt funding to advance his political goals.

he knew, as most ppl did, that 2008 was a change year.
recession, ramping down of an unpopular war, it was very similiar to 1988 when a hillbilly with a tang addiction managed to win election over the most powerful man in history, bush Sr.
newt, jindal, and others were smart enough not to throw their hats into the ring in 2008.

Mccain admitted cheating on his 1st wife. You voted for him, right?
i'm sure Mccain's public stance on family issues was very far-right while he was delivering payloads in hawaii while poor sick wife stayed at home. Also hypocritical, but that didn't stop ya in 2008.

McCain was not holding public office when he cheated on his wife. Major distinction. He wasn't leading some worthless crusade against the president while flushing my tax dollars down the toilet. He wasn't being publicly critical of another political leader for cheating on his wife, while he was doing the very same thing.
When you hold a position of public trust, the standards for your public and private conduct are much higher. That's why I have such a problem with people like Newsome, the L.A. mayor, etc.

Bum - I don't see why that makes a difference.
I agree with you on the worthless crusade, hypocrisy, etc.. but If you have a problem with adultery then why would it make any difference whether the person was an elected official at the time or not. I find that to be an odd distinction.

Newts knowledge is scary. Very intelligent, presided over congress in one of this nation's best times, and incredibly experienced. 240, I agree with nearly everything you said in this thread (wow!).
IMO, Newt is the most qualified person in either party to be president. I always thought he'd be crucified because of the marital affair (and preaching family values) so he avoided running, thats a tough one to swallow but right now many can look past it because of the state of the union and the direction Obama and Pelosi are taking the country.
If Obama doesn't turn things around by 2010 (and doesn't stop putting us in debt!), its ripe for a strong conservative leader like Newt. He is not a right wing loon. He's incredibly smart and worked well with moderate democrats to get things done in the 90s. I still don't think he'll run but he'd have my vote. I've listened to his ideas the last few yrs on debate shows and am completely impressed with him. More impressed than anyone else that I can think of on either side.
-
BB, I'm baffled.
You would prefer someone who is marginally qualified (Palin) be elected because she's "all religious n stuff".
You would choose her over Newt, probably the smartest person in DC and certainly one of our shrewdest national leaders... because 15 years ago, he put his weewee someplace bad while he was running a partisan witchhunt?
Look, the President gets to carry the nuclear football and can start wars, holy war, economic wars, and all sorts of other messes.
If you had to punch a name on a ticket for President - BB and everyone else - Would it be Palin or Newt?
-
No disrespect to BB but Palin and Newt are in different leagues.
-
exactly
Please run, Newt! ;D
As opposed to Barry's "progressive" ideas which are shit and are going to ruin this country.

No disrespect to me, but thanks. I never get offended by stuff posted on the board. And just to clarify, I never mentioned Palin. That's just 240 making stuff up (again). Palin doesn't have anything to do with whether Newt runs for president in 2012.
-
i ASKED you, BB.
If you had to punch a name on a ticket for President - BB and everyone else - Would it be Palin or Newt?
-
Palin doesn't haven't anything to do with whether Newt runs for president in 2012.
Wow, you're too timid to answer this one.
Instead of just saying which candidate you'd choose (so we can learn your position of qualifications vs. religious positions and actions), you dodge it.
Come on, you're better than that. Take a stand. Which person would make a better president - Newt or palin, beach bum?
-
Yawn. ::)
-
Yawn. ::)
you were doing really well for a while.
suddenly you can't say whether a 1-tem governor would be as strong a president as a man who ran congress for a decade.

You were doing pretty well for a while, telling the truth and all, then you reverted to just making stuff up:
You would prefer someone who is marginally qualified (Palin) be elected because she's "all religious n stuff".
Post the quote.
And why the heck do you care so much about who I'm potentially going to vote for in a primary election nearly four years from now?? ::)
-
...Newt, probably the smartest person in DC and certainly one of our shrewdest national leaders...
You just destroyed your credibility right there.

Benny, do you know anything about Newt?
You are probably the most blindly partisan person on this board, open your mind.

I know enough to know he is a human shitstain. ::)
Newt is soooo 1995.
-
I bet most people would love it to be 1995 as far as the economy goes. The mid 90s were a very good economic time. Clinton/Gingrich combo worked well. A hell of a lot better than Bush/Pelosi and Obama/Pelosi.
-
And I'm supposed to care what you think because . . . ?
I would never expect you to care what I think
just like I couldn't give less of a shit what you think

The Messiah, aside from his radical connections, is doing very well for the country thus far with money. ::)

Wow, you're stuck reading from the McCain playbook circa summer of 2008. I hate to break it to ya' son, but McCain got his ass kicked on November 4th. That show failed at the box office. You might want to try something new. Oh, I know! :o You can follow Obama's plan an be on the right side of history! :)

That's okay, I'm not a big fan of Barry tanking the economy further, creating a Socialist environment and supporting people who won't even try to support themselves. Maybe if Barry ever held a real job and worked among constituents who did the same he would realize redistributing wealth is a stupid idea. It took him a little over a month to create dissent within his own party. Your boy Barry is putting his agenda ahead of the good of the country, because the two sure as hell don't coincide. He knows he has until the 2010 elections to pass his stupid ideas and it doesn't look too good right now.
-

Even Democrats are starting to bolt away from Obama's madness. The man truly is either abusing cocaine or truly insane.
He has no clue about economics since he has never had a private sector job in his entire life before this one.
BTW - Newt is in a different league than Obama as far as intelligence goes. Newt is a giant whereas Obama is a pretender.
-
Maybe if Barry ever held a real job and worked among constituents
3 years as a community organizer in the shitty parts of Chicago don't count?
Please list the "real job" involving "constituents" which would actually count then, along with which of your republican idols have held it.
In a game full of spoiled rich kids who go on to congress, Obama is actually one guy who did work hands on with the people, instead of opting for the high paid corp job. You can hate on his stim plan, fo sho. But he did work with real people, way more hands on than most.

Unreal. Obama has never even balanced his own damn checkbook.

dude, you can shit on his performance as prez, that's fair.
But to say he's never worked among his constituents is just a lie.
if you want to lie, that's cool. Just make it a GOOD lie. Tell me palin scored 1500 on the SATs or that Steele has a spine.

Perhaps my phrasing was a bit off. He has never held a real job and worked with people who actually held real jobs as well. He and his pals Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson need to learn what real jobs are and the people in Chicago need to stop looking to "community organizers" for guidance and get a damn job.
I don't care about or really like Palin (well, in a sexual way) and Jindal flopped but neither are President 240. He already looks worn out and he's been in office a month. He must be detoxing from coke and nicotine. Tough break for the guy. Maybe I should send him a can of Copenhagen so Amarosa Obama doesn't find out.
-
A community organizer is working with a very specific population in a charity sort of way. Its not middle American or small business.

Again, we said this before the election - this is not real job because he was NEVER accountable to results.
Check out this video.

This is exactly what we have been talking about. He has no experience whatsoever in an executive position.
AND YES - IN THIS REGARD PALIN HAS MORE EXPERIENCE!

I normally do not address racist shitheads, but if you are going to make up stories to enhance your meaningless life and give it imagination you should at least throw a few facts in to make your story seem somewhat plausible. Coke and nicotine? Where's the evidence suggesting a coke habit since Obama's been in the White House. Only thing the president has suggested is that he likes to smoke a cig or two while he tries to break the habit. Typical for a repube guy to lie when they've got nothing else.
What's Omarosa and Michelle Obama have in common that makes you merge their names? Strange shit coming from a strange person. :-\ It wouldn't be that they are both BLACK WOMEN, would it? Nooo that would be to obvious and make the person seem like a real bigot. ::)
Obama's approval ratings are higher than ever, so repubes resort to lies. And then root against America, wishing for more people to lose their jobs and that the stock market continues to plummet causing people to lose their net wealth and funds for retirement! Yippee! Let's vote for failure! That's the only hope the repubes have for getting back into power in 2010. I don't think they are even looking at 2012 right now.
I've wasted enough bandwidth on this moron. Back to oblivion for you!

+1.
Lie and gnash their teeth enough and "maybe" a miracle will occur and Obama will quit and step down. That is their feverish hope.
Unfortunately, that isn't happening and they have a LONNNNGGGG 8 years ahead of them.
Now cue in the standard twit to come on here and whine about "Obama is only for one term"... which seems to be a mantra that their therapist has given them to repeat over and over again so their insecurities and frustrations don't overwhelm them. Meanwhile they can't put enough Band-Aids on their own party long enough to for it to make it up off the floor from the knock out blow the nation delivered it.

Haha, no it's because they look alike.
Everything I have read that Obama's approval rating is in the mid to low 60's (%) and is continuing to drop little by little. I don't expect that to change with his current "plan" of action.
So you admit he still smokes? So should I send the dip? There's no smell so he should be able to hide it from wifey.

How does Cap making comments about cocaine and nicotine use make him a bigot or racist? Brutal overreaching on racism claims. Criticise him on making a sarcastic and innacurate remark but racist? No.
BTW, not that I care, but Obama clearly admits to drug use in his college days.
Same with Omarosa and Michelle Obama. Besides them sharing skin color, they are both alpha females who have successful careers and have been known to be forceful with their opinions.

I posted a good video about the cap and trade taxes that is going to be the final nail in our coffin.
Check it out. Basically, it taxes everyone and helps companies ship jobs overseas.
Benny refuses to debate issues because he knows that his messiah has no robe.

Admittedly, yes I am a smart ass. ;D You cannot deny the similar facial characteristics of Omarosa and Michelle, in addition to what shootfighter mentioned.
Benny, I get nicotine cravings (I think) if I go too long without dip, so why it overreaching to think that Barry has the same for cigs?

I truly have yet to see a decent defense of cap & trade and card check from any of the knee pad crew on this board.
-
There is no defence to cap and trade as far as business is concerned. Obama puts reducing carbon emissions as a higher priority than business in this country. That isn't a knock on him, its just what his actions are saying by promoting this policy.
