Pay pregnant teens to take vitamins
"States should pay pregnant teenagers to take prenatal vitamins and stay healthy so the government avoids expensive costs when babies end up in neonatal intensive care units."
"The state should consider paying girls to not get pregnant"
-
I don't believe in this.
You have to mend the problem much earlier - which is target the lousy diet habits in kids and families today.
One way to start is to prohibit schools from having vending machines and make sure all the food served is nutritious.
I understand Pelosi's reasoning, and she may be right and I may be wrong. Who could with good conscience be against something that will help the health of newborn and likely lower total costs of healt care?
It's hard.
-
Good or bad ideas, fellahs?
-
Is it a bad idea that she bash her brain in with that hammer, nope not at all.
-

hey, she's an elected official, you gotta respect her office.
Do you think we should be paying people to take their vitamins? The Luke talked on GB about paying teenage girls to take birth control. I thought it was a cool idea to bring down pregnancy rates and prevent a whole generation of unwed mothers and ppl on welfare.
-
No I don't she's a douchbag.....if u suck u suck. She really sucks.

It's a stupid idea. Pelosi's an idiot. She's not mom to a whole nation of teens. They have parents. She should butt out and quit trying to come up with new and innovative ways of spending more tax dollars.

More schemes and wasteful spending by this wench.

LOL at the lib spending machine... seriously, can ANYONE defend this?

How about they pay me not to run out and get teenage girls pregnant?
-
How about they pay me not to run out and get teenage girls pregnant?
Settle down newt.
-
For $300 per week, I hereby promise not to run out and impregnant any teenage girls. We all know those silly teens can't be trusted to remember something so complicated anyway if it were entrusted to them. :)
-
Is this Pelosi's idea? What a complete f'n moron. She is so far to the left its amazing. Now we have to pay people to take the medicines that are typically already paid for anyway. Idiotic.
Pre-natal vitamins are covered under medicaid.
-
Is this Pelosi's idea?
hahaha nah, actually this one came from the right. I wondered if painting the idea with a pelosi would taint opinions in any way ;)

Gingrich: Pay pregnant teens to take vitamins
David Eggert / Associated Press
LANSING -- Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says Michigan should pay pregnant teenagers to take prenatal vitamins and stay healthy so the government avoids expensive costs when babies end up in neonatal intensive care units.
The Republican also told state senators Wednesday he supports paying poor children to read, and the state should consider paying girls to not get pregnant.
Gingrich is the founder of the Center for Health Transportation.
He says politicians and the media spend too much time focusing on the finances of health care. Gingrich says more attention must be paid to cultural changes such as requiring students to exercise, putting grocery stores in the inner city and incentivizing people to not smoke.
-

Do you think we should be paying people to take their vitamins?
I've been paid to take the vitamins of my choice for years. (http://www.jaguarenterprises.net/images/em/yippee.gif)
The Luke talked on GB about paying teenage girls to take birth control. I thought it was a cool idea to bring down pregnancy rates and prevent a whole generation of unwed mothers and ppl on welfare.
I don't know about paying them to take it, ...but I can definitely see the merits of educating them about birth control, and making it available to them. Depriving kids of birth control and teaching abstinence only doesn't do it.

"The state should consider paying girls to not get pregnant"
probably only costs pennies per person and potentially prevents other health care costs later (which would most likely be paid by the state)

weve already been over this is a retarded fuking idea

again difference between me and you 240 is ill say an idea is a shitty idea no matter who it comes from you sir will never go against barry or for that matter the majority of the left
-
That's real cute 240. ::)
But Pelosi is still an idiot nutjob.
And I still don't like the idea--although in reality we're only talking about the state of Michigan, vs. the whole country under your hypothetical Pelosi scenario.

Will it actually save the tax payer money in the long run? Will it reduce Health care costs?
If so... then sure... I'm all for it.
If the health care industry is just going to pocket the cash anyway, then I don't see how it helps the average tax paying citizen, so I would not be a fan.

Good grief. Horrible idea.

I know how you feel about freecredit commercials. Ever since Rogers communications bought CITY TV, they have replaced their Late Night Late Great Movies with endless infomercials. It's enough to make me scream. >:(

this is no time for logic and critical thinking
now is the time for emotional, gut level responses

Bullshit, I don't care who said it, its a bad idea. You don't pay adults to make personal decisions that they should be making!
I agree with Jag about making birth control available and promoting education but I absolutely refuse to support paying adults for taking pills that they are supposed to take (and are free anyway). F-ck that, have at least a little personal responsibility for Christ sake.

I thought it was for teens and presumably those in some sort of need for financial assistance
-

uh, no... I hardly watch any tv now because of their shit. If I ever see that annoying fucker in real life, It'll be national news. When the tv is on, it feels like playing Russian roulette knowing that fucker could play any moment. I'll probably cancel service. When it's not the credit commercial, it's Bob and enzyte or some other fucking limp dick annoying commercial. If I listen to that shit one more time, I swear to god I'll go fucking postal.
five... five dallar foot loooooonnngg... AHHHHHHHH >:( die die die die

I'll tell you what makes my skin crawl since we're on the subject... listening to the radio on the way to work and hearing all these freakin mortgage company motherfcukers giving people the hard sell... "we know what the rates are right now, we don't know what they're going to be in a few months..." blah blah blah blah... I seriously wanna punch those guys in the teeth.
-
Hey, stocks rallied today. Finally a good day.
-
Bullshit, I don't care who said it, its a bad idea. You don't pay adults to make personal decisions that they should be making!
People should ALWAYS be incentivized to do the right thing. Goodness knows there are too many incentives to do the wrong thing, ...and lets face it, ...many consistently act in ways counter-productive to their own best interests, and while they do suffer in the long run, ...they take countless others down with them. just look at the Wall Street fiasco.
I agree with Jag about making birth control available and promoting education but I absolutely refuse to support paying adults for taking pills that they are supposed to take (and are free anyway). F-ck that, have at least a little personal responsibility for Christ sake.
Vitamins aren't free. They also aren't all of the same caliber.
Some vitamin companies will infact put cyanide in their vitamins because it's cheaper.
I say incentivize people to do the right thing, ...not the easy thing, ...but the right thing.
-
Give me a fucking break. Why should we give people incentives to do what they're supposed to do in the first place? When did the government become the equivalent of an insurance company that rewards people with lower premiums for not crashing their cars? This morning I drove my car to school and didn't run over a single pedestrian. After that, I walked through the hallway and didn't shove anyone on the floor or steal anyones wallet. I think I deserve some incentive for that also. Can I have free money?
Jag your attitude is precisely what's wrong with the world these days- It reminds me of the new-wave rich douchebag parents who get steamrolled by their spoiled brat children; They hand them everything, get disrespected at every turn, give their kids every single possible advantage, and the kids turn out to be unemployed art or literature majors with drug problems whining to their psychiatrists and sleeping on the couch. No discipline, no sense of responsibility, no guts. The incentive is supposed to be avoiding the stick rather than recieving the carrot. If you fuck up, you pay the price via your health, your bank account, your freedom. Are expectations that low in this day and age that doing what you ought to do because its what your supposed to do isn't enough?
-
Give me a fucking break.
gladly, ...which limb should I break first? :)
Why should we give people incentives to do what they're supposed to do in the first place?
Because if they are incentivized to do what they're not suppose to, that's what they do. The best example I can give you of that is the greed, lack of oversight, and bloody corruption we saw on Wall Street. And look at the mess it has gotten them, ...and everybody else into. Bad behavior is currently being incentivized, ...it's about time common sense got off it's derriere and responded accordingly.

I think I deserve some incentive for that also. Can I have free money?
The incentive doesn't have to be free money, ...but incentives do work don't they? Do you have a problem with lower car insurance rates? Would you turn them down if offered? If you have a clean record and receive lower rates as a result, ...how likely are you to want to keep that status?

Sorry, I beg to differ. Infact, I would go so far as to posit that it's your attitude that may be more of a contributing factor to the chronic challenges we are seeing in today's USA.
It is well understood that people are motivated by 2 things: a: The desire for gain and b: the fear of loss.
To say you can or should only accomplish something through fear is not only inaccurate and misguided, it is a sin.
Decisions made out of fear are paralyzing & disempowering, ...and it's through fear that man's true potential is dwarfed.
Look at your President for example. Neither his campaign, nor his victory were based in fear, quite the opposite.
McCain on the other hand was all about fear. Yours leads to a society where people run FROM something rather than GOING FORWARD to something. Huge world of difference.
I should be worth keeping in mind that there are those who do want to do the right thing, but lack the means to.
A pregnant teen who wants to give birth to a healthy baby may want to eat nutritiously and take care of herself, but she lacks the means to do so, ...or for that matter, one too lazy to do so? As a result, she gives birth to an underweight, malnourished, retarded baby with severe cognitive disorders. Who pays that price? The "lazy mother" or the retarded child & the rest of society? No man is an island. Actions have consequences that ripple throughout society. A butterfly can flap it's wings in Minnesota, and guess what, ...there's a tsunami in China.
ps: Kind of ironic don't you think that a self-proclaimed WHORE could be arguing against incentives :P
-
Jag, all of your reasoning is part of some quasi philsophical relativism that totally shuns the concept of personal responsibility and treats human beings like helpless, pathetic, animals that need to be cared for and coerced into taking care of themselves by the omnipotent nanny government.

So, if I understand, a pregnant teen who "wants to give birth to a healthy baby" but is "too lazy to do so" should be paid to take vitamains and therefore the baby wont turn out malnourished and retarded? ::)
Gee, I suppose a pregnant mother taking the time to ensure her unborn child is healthy is WAY above the notion of reasonable. I mean, obviously the government should step in. How about people too lazy to flush their toilets, get the brakes on their cars checked, or look for jobs or exercise? Should the government pay people to flush or take an aerobics class? I mean think- Who suffers? Diseases spread through unsanitary plumbing practices would likely impact most of the population. And chronic obesity? Exercise would help prevent that- So less people would end up in hospitals or dropping dead of heart attacks before 40- less orphans, less strain on the healthcare system, less burden on the state in the long-run I suppose. But why stop there? Breathing can also be a chore. We can't have people dropping dead left and right- Lets pay everyone to breathe.
Aren't those two above premises mutually exclusive? If shes too lazy to take care of her unborn child, doesnt it follow she doesn't care about how the baby turns out? Cmon Jag. Get with the program.
As to everything about Obama and McCain - YAWN... Obama got elected because the economy tanked while a republican was in office period.
I like sluts and George Orwell books==> George Whorewell

You should have named yourself Chubby Checker... Goodness knows you twist even more than he does. ::)
Obviously someone too lazy doesn't care how the baby turns out, however, that wasn't my question.
My question was: Who pays that price? The "lazy mother" or the retarded child & the rest of society
I didn't think such a diehard Republican such as yourself would so readily embrace the prospect of paying the price for this woman's laziness. You surprise me everyday Whorewell.
