???
To be honest bro, it really depends on how much you weigh and how long you have been lifting. I benched 300 for the first time after about 3 years of training, during my senior year of high school.
-
i think 300 in most cases i have seen is more impressive than respectable, but it all depends on how much you weigh.
i think 1.5 you body weight is pretty good, but if you can push 1.25 of you body weight and your not training for strength i think its still respectable.
-
265 lbs for guys - 165 for lasses.
that's what I would consider respectable for someone of average weight.
Guys benchpressing 300 natural are pretty strong IMHO.
If you can benchpress 440 lbs natural in competition you're a exceptionally strong IMO or has managed to bulk yourself up to 400+ lbs.8)
because at that weight anyone who trains will be able to bench 440. ;D
-
225 ;D
-
315+ is good for a natural.
juiced depends on how much drugs are being used i guess.
-
max rep = real weight + getbig margin (100 lbs)
-
I suppose it depends what the parameters are - if you take a guy who has never trained in his life aged 21-35 of normal build I would say a respectable one rep max bench would be between 225 and 250lbs.
-
A raw bench press that's near or over 1.5 x body weight is very respectable for anyone.
-
also depends on how long your arms are. i have quite the long monkey arms and i totally suck at bp.

who never trained ???
benching 250 ? not even 225

WHY?

JOELOCO benched 400 at the age of 17, no juice
-
JOELOCO benched 400 at the age of 17, no juice
LOL
that guy is so full of shit it aint even funny.
I saw an 18 year old who's pretty much world class in the 165 lbs class do a fairly tough single with 315 lbs - with a shirt he's capable of around 420 lbs.
Just to give you an idea how delusional The Coach is.

I could do only 85 reps.
-
I can't bench for shit
-
A raw bench press that's near or over 1.5 x body weight is very respectable for anyone.
yes, this.
1.5+ times bodyweight

Maybe weights were lighter back then.

all this time you spend on a pro bb message board and you can't bench 300? ???
-
???
130 kg+ is ok. (My own PB is 120 kg- about 264 pounds, and I have shoulder problems that probably ensure that I'll never get any higher)
CD
-
240+120=360
that's about right
-
1.5 x bdy wt
-
i never believed in bench press.
-
225 for 10... thats the heaviest i did on flat bench... :-[ never tested my one rep max..
-

That wouldn't be respectable, it would be phenomenal. Never training and hitting 225-250? Only if you're Herschel Walker.
-
I can do 315 twice
-
to be honest i dont remember the post by i think it was over 400 lol
ask him, he doesnt deny it :)
I think the claim was 385 as a 16 year old and 525 as an all time best.
The all time best I find easier to believe actually. Because then he was on shit and obviously a very gifted lifter.
But to claim a lift of 385 as a natty 16 year old @ approx 165 lbs? ::)
That's an insult to all those who actually go at it as naturals.
-
is bench press ever really about respect?!?! its about degradation of your peers!!! :P showing them how much more of an alpha male you are than they
respectable bench press....absurd ;D
-
225 for 10... thats the heaviest i did on flat bench... :-[ never tested my one rep max..
and you have the nerve to call yourself 'PECS' ......

6 plates +

guys that can put up 3 wheels on each side is doing better than most
-

I'll take that. You're marriage material for sure.
-
yes, this.
1.5+ times bodyweight
im 100kg, so i reckon i should bench around 150kg which is 330pounds. okay i can manage that, loves benching :)

315 seems good for a natural.
400+ for juicer.
-
500LB ;D
-

maybe "pecs" is his boyfriend's nickname, JJ.
-
All bullshit aside for a genetically average drug free trainee a 300lb bench is considered very impressive. But I'm sure everyone on here is natural and benching 500lbs. ::)

fixed.

I tend to go with the old stand of:
1.5 BW= Bench
2 BW= Squat
2 BW= Deadlift
Assuming one has a decent amount of training time and is relatively serious.

Deadlift is too easy. Bench is too hard.

Spoken for truth - the average non trainer male between 21 -40 would struggle with 150lbs.
-
its a stupid question on a bodybuilding board.
all that should matter is a weight that allows you to properly contract the chest.. increasing its size over time.
that said.. if you cant very quickly work up to 315 on the bench weighing over 180 pounds... that sperm cell that fertilized your egg.. was supposed to contain a X chromosome.
I could kill you with my bare hands.
-
I could kill you with my bare hands.
Could you do it with one hand and video with the other?
-
;)
I'm joking friend. 8)

We should work together, you could film. Your pointy head would add an extra element of horror to our snuff films.

You're cool in my book.
You don't seem to be an internet tuff guy or schmoe, which is rare here.
-
1.5x bodyweight is a solid number

you might want to take that book back...
Fuck da public library

Nothing over 300 unless you are a pro powerlifter...but for bodybuilding there's no reason to try single reps!!!

i have a video of me benching 315 for 8 but my chip is not compatible with this laptop. ill try to upload it on another computer.
-
I always heard that it is 100lbs over your own body weight, now whether that is reps or max I don't know...
I also think how long you have been lifting factors into that equation somewhere, like 9 months-1 year...
-
315 is respectable
-
Everyone giving their opinion on a # are wrong.
Doesn't matter what you bench. What matters is the results on the muscles.
-
315 is respectable
Yep. Rarely do the 225 guys get any attention. 315 and your startin to talk the talk.
-
315 is far beyond what the average lifter can press so I'd also go with 315.
