The NPC San Diego contest was the first NPC show in California to feature the new NPC Bikini division, and a lot of people were anticipating to see exactly what were they look for, and what the differences would be between Figure and Bikini.  This was a big local show, over 130 competitors, and there were some surprises, plus some promising competitors that will do quite well this year.  There was also a lot of novice competitors, and it was nice to see people go up on stage and feel good about themselves, through training, diet and discipline.

thanks for the pics.  Looking at them, I am still baffled at this "bikini division" the NPC is ridiculously trying to pull off.  So basically the criteria I see in order to compete in this division is:

--they are normal girls who jog a few times/year and whose faces are aren't pretty enough to do a Hooters or Hawaiian Tropic bikini contests?

The figure judging was baffling as well. Looks like they penalized the more muscular women. At least in the bodybuilding competitiion the judging is pretty consistant but I feel bad for these women who literally have different criteria from show to show.

The overall physique is very important, but yes, if a figure competitor was too muscular, it looked like they were penalized.  One competitor looked great, but she just had too much muscle. A little less, and I thought she could of been right up there.
