DQ, at that price point, I would go with a used one off of Craigslist, etc... With a new one, even if it has a warranty, good luck getting them out to fix a problem at that price point...hello 30 minute hold on a 1-800 number to india.... Just call the manufacturer before you go to look at one and find out how to check diagnostics for use. Also, have the person tell you where they bought it from and be sure they are still in business, incase you need service....just some thoughts.
My suggestion: spend the extra $500. you can get great new treadmill for $1500 that will hold up really well. Pacemaster is a great brand at that price point.
Good luck. PM if you want any other advice.

Sorry dude, instead of spending a grand on a treadmill, go to southwest, buy a ticket for $100 and fly out west my friend, rent a room for about $200 a month and fly back when winter's done

I agree that you should try to find a pro one that's available at or a little more than 1K on ebay or craig's than one that's around 1 K. More durable, but on the pro version try to stay away from refurbished, which are generally highly-used gym models with thousands of hours on them. Be a little flexible on the price and if necessary wait to get a little more together in order to get somethng reliable rather than rigidly adhering to a certain price range.
There are some exceptions on the home or semi-pro level though, check treadmill doctor and consumer's reports for durable treadmills at different price points. Bodyguard and Landice are two of the better home and semi-pro brands. Foldable treadmills are a niche in the home market.
