Title: Anyone here a Jim Lee comic book fan?
Post by: EwaBeachBoy on March 23, 2009, 01:39:56 PM
To me, Jim Lee is the most gifted artist ever.

Grew up reading X-men comics and WildCats, and such.

He really impacted my life

He has a myspace page, so tell him, "Hi"

I thought his best work was when he penciled 'X-Men' in 1993.

I didn't like when he switched to a flatter bold-ink style with DEATHBLOW for Image.

 Still a badass chinaman!

he's good, but Joe Madureira basically revolutionized, or "evolutionized" Marvel Comics and comics in general. What he did with Uncanny X-men was Gold, and Battle Chasers would have been a beast had he been on time. He just did graphic novel , Ultimates 3.

I disagree with you there. Joe Madureira is great but he isnt as great as Jim Lee!!

I mean, Jim Lee's anatomy for his drawings are precise...he makes the women look gorgeous. H makes the women look like women and mnen look like men

Actually, joe Mad has toned down the Anime inspired drawings, take a look at Ultimates 3. I respect both, but Joe Mad's style was so (fresh, and so clean) that that was the reason why he had a lot of fanfare, due to the Anime influence, nobody had incorporated that before, and Humberto Ramos has a similar style. And Joe Campbell was good to with Dangergirl.

Jim Lee's work on Transformers and GI Joe was good as well.

Yes, I say those 2 are my favorites but Jim Lee is my top!

I also liked Marc Silvestri whose style is almost like Jim Lee's. I was also a big fan of Whilce Portacio, Brett Boothm Michael Turner, Travis Charest....

But the thing though is Jim Lee's work had a life of is own. It didnt look like it just stood motionless on paper or empty.

I cant say Jim Lee is God because he isnt because there is only one and that Jesus Christ...but he is comic book and artistic perfection!

I loved his work on Deathblow, and on the X-men..but I don't think he handles singular characters very well. They all look like the same guy with different costumes.

I can understand what you mean about Joe's style but he isnt the first...

Well Todd McFarlane's and Whilce Portacio's style were considered anime believe it or not...and this was in the 80s through the 90s....

Whilce's style I have to say is close to the anime you see in cartoons...

i agree, I would like to see either Jim Lee tackle Deadpool or Joe Mad re-enter the Marvel fold and take on Deadpool. That character needs more injection of talent. And more development.

joe's style is more the He-man (from the 80's) meets Dragonball Z, with the wild hair and all, but with the crazy detail and epic bodybuilder Proportions (think Killer Instinct video game)

What do you think of "The First" and that artist? And how about the Witchblade cartoon ? I think they made her sexualized too much, that ain't what the witchblade is about.

It's actually J Scott Campbell... Jeff Scott...  Not Joe... I'm just picking nits actually... Dangergirl was tight, but Gen13 was equally awesome.

His biggest problem was delivery... He can never put shit out on time... I bet his initial Dangergirl run was what, 7 or 8 issues... took him over THREE YEARS to deliver.

You know full well that Andy Hartnell wasn't the reason it was always late.

See, that's the problem, if you have the goods, but can't deliver 'em? Why bother

only thing I like close to anime is The Boondocks

fuck, wish there would be a third season, McGruder could probably make some good episodes with current events as they are.

It was also the downfall of Rob Liefeld... Guy is on top of the world when he ships Youngblood and can't make a deadline for shit... Same problem when he took over Captain America after Heroes Reborn... Ridiculous how late he always was.

Todd McFarland is the greatest (Amazing Spiderman, Spiderman, Hulk, Spawn etc)  I like McFarland because his characters look real.  He revolutionized Spiderman.
Then Jim Lee, (Uncanny X-men, X-men, Wildcats etc.)
Dale Keowen is awesome as is Rob Leifield

Erik Larsen is ok also.

Keown may be my favorite of the group... His run on the Incredible Hulk is legendary and was perhaps the greatest run of all comics of all times... Simply epic.

Each of those guys really did something special and ushered in an era of Comics that we may never see again in our lives.

McFarland doesn't give a crap about comics anymore... his Toy line is making far too much bank... He's just around now.

I wish Rob had gotten his head together... Same with Campbell... You start to resent them when they don't produce regularly and you're waiting for the next issue.

That's why Lee, Keown, or Larsen gets my nod for the best... They produced every single month and never missed a beat... They were / are money.
