*Yawn* - this has already been addressed many times

That reminds me, we also talked about the bench press competition where he did 15 reps for 225 lbs and got questioned a lot on the boards as to why he could not or did not lift more.  He actually did not even want to do the competition but was chosen by the Weider camp and was told it was mandatory for him as it was really a competition between Muscletech vs. Weider athletes.  I am guessing he was chosen since he is one of the bigger/stronger Weider guys who was not competing at the Olympia that year.  He then defiantly decided that he would just go and do 10 reps and take off.  When the time came, he went ahead and did 15 comfortable reps instead before deciding it's enough.  That was nowhere near an actual maximum performance with 225 for Nasser.  Matt Duvall tore his chest a few weeks before the contest while he was practing for it, and Nasser did not want to risk any injury like that, and really doesn't care how much he benches as opposed to how he looks.

hahaha, and if he cared to actually "compete" in it he would not have stopped at 15 reps, done them so slowly, etc.

Gotta give credit to Nassar for doing full reps in that laughably judged "competition".

Again the obsesses start their obsessing over HUGE Nasser.

Nasser was doing this competition under protest.

Nasser was doing super slow, full reps - contrast this with the joke bouncing and 1/4 reps of the others.

Nasser was unwell and tired on this day but even if not then he had no intention of giving it even 30% effort after being compelled to do this "gimmick" competition against his mighty will.

Nasser is a well renowned strong man and hardcore trainer who lifts insane weights - this is confirmed.

Even so, bodybuilding is about muscle stimulation . His k strict, slow form is exactly how to really work the actual muscle.

LOL Have you even watched the video?? You don't wanna seriously call that "reps" what this guy does, don't you?? ::)

I don't know exactly what he does, but it looks like he's holding a 225 bar in his hands and shakes and wiggles it a lil up and down permanently. Never seen that before, don't know what that's supposed to be. ???

Yes....Nasser's form is legendary.

He is actually WEAK for his size, look at him struggling here.

He can't even get 1 clean rep with 140....he barely moves it, and needs A LOT of help to get 6 shitty reps with 120. I know plenty of guys that don't juice that can do that, including me 8)

Also he is leaning so far back it's really an incline press....which shows you how truly weak, stupid bald and ugly he really is.

Cool, you saw the whole video too?  Was pretty good hey?  As I recall he started off the chest workout with flat dumbell presses, repping out with 160's, did a bunch of other exercises and at the VERY END of his chest workout he did incline barbell press with 3 plates after being quite exhausted.  Then was on to those shoulder presses in the video above.

He also pyramided up to 255 lbs on cambered bar curls, 585 lb deadlifts, 9 plate deep hack squats, and 10 plate t-bar rows to mention a few.

Yet they think he can't bench press more than 225 lbs for 15 reps :)

Who cares?  Is he a powerlifter?  Whatever he did works, since he is still injury free, placed top 3 in 29 of 31 consecutive shows, consistently competed at 280 ripped lbs, and made enough money from the industry to retire comfortably (which is not easy compared to other higher paying sports).

If i saw Nasser on the street I would piss right on his leg and dare him to do something about it

I didn't say 80, but he could have gotten at least double if he actually cared or tried.  Like I said he did not even want to do the "competition" and was unhappy and in a defiant mood when the Weider camp told him he must.  Going in he thought he would just do 10 reps then rack it, instead he stopped at 15.  If he cared he would have practiced for it like the others did, would have bounced the weight, done his set till failure, done half reps, etc...and would have gotten well over 30 reps that way.

Believe what you want, if he cared how much people thought he could bench he wouldn't have stopped at 15 :)  At the end of the day he's still one of the most succesful bodybuilders of all time.

hahaha I "care" to get you guys riled up and continue to reply, that's about it ;)

And no, randomly sticking in "meltdown" does not make my post a meltdown :)

That's what I'm saying. I have never seen a vid of Nasser where he moves really heavy weight with good form.

I really have to agree with bigcocks at this one. He is no friggin Powerlifter, it's not his job to move heavy weights. That's like saying "I have never seen a vid of Benedict Magnusson where he has really shredded abs" or "I have never seen a vid of Usian Bolt where he runs longer than 100 meters". It's not their job either.

Have you seen the training videos of Kai Greene at MD. This guy makes stiff-legged deadlifts with 110 pds and lunges without extra weight.

P.S. And, I almost forgot to mention, this guy won the Arnold Classics few weeks ago. ;)

Who cares?  Is he a powerlifter?  Whatever he did works, since he is still injury free, placed top 3 in 29 of 31 consecutive shows, consistently competed at 280 ripped lbs, and made enough money from the industry to retire comfortably (which is not easy compared to other higher paying sports).

Whatever he did worked, except for his back.  I think his training style was the main reason his back was so lagging.  It might've worked for the rest of his body, but swinging heavy weights and using momentum just couldn't etch in that detail that the other competitors had.  :-\

Both Dorian and Ronnie had injuries, yes, but they also have a few Sandow trophies lying around too  ;)

hahaha you guys all obsessively posting about Nasser's lifts hardly amounts to ownage of myself (or Nasser)  ::)  Especially since Nasser is not a powerlifter.

Not true - Ronnie's back training involves lots of swinging too.  It's just genetics, everyone has some bodypart or bodyparts that aren't quite as good as the rest, for example Ronnie's calves and abs, or Dorian's arms.

Also he is leaning so far back it's really an incline press....which shows you how truly weak, stupid bald and ugly he really is.

i swear even phill heath did a better dumbell shoulder press on his video.. and nasser outweighs him by 70 pounds....
hahahahha ...
and look at the synthol in the bi's...
he is weak for his size

Nasser is actually very strong but do people understand that professional IFBB bodybuilders are not powerlifters and that the poundages they use and the serious risk of injury means that they deliberately have to find ways to REDUCE the weight - pre-exhausting, going to failure with isolation exercises before starting the compounds etc..

Ultimately, it don't matter what weight they lift but what their physique looks like.

Nasser's form is perfect. If you want to be a true great like Nasser the ego stays at the door, otherwise you end up like the garbage bag bodies of getbig, obsessing over weight lifted while looking like shit!

Typical talk from small, bitter little "men" like Mesomorph78. 'oh , I could be a pro if I did a cycle'.

The fact is, it don't matter if Nasser benches 400 x 10 or 225 super slow with perfect form , all that matters is the finished article. It's muscle stimulation, not powerlifting.

This is very true. Good post.  Also, unemployed and low grade workers like mesomorph and groink forget that when your physique is your livelihood, you must do everything in your power to avoid injury.

For guys as huge as Nasser who using their muscles so much, the trick and skill is to get maximum muscle stimulation with the lightest weights.

coming DEAD last... thats what Im discussing...

I don't know what is wrong with people like you,are you one of the guys that comment "STEROIDS!!!!" on a Youtube clip? If he used so much "roids" why isn't he stronger then?,after all you insist that he is weak?

By the way,i met Serge Nubret a couple of years ago,he used to bench 70-80 kilos/150-185lbs and hi's max was above 440 lbs (all these stats in his prime , i guess he is weak then ?  ::)

the topic is nasser benching... 225 for 12 reps....
coming DEAD last
him having a corvette means nothing to me...
...
300+lb man juicing struggling to get 15 reps
is my point of contention..
and great amusement

meso - you do take gear, and still you do not look like nasser or have been anywhere near as successful.

if nasser chose to do powerlifting i have no doubt he would be a success in that too.

you are a bodybuilder who juices, claims he is natural, and who looks like decent with some muscle, nasser is a legend of bodybuilding and world famous.

you are losing your credibility very quickly here.

It's not really a test of  real strength , more a test of endurance.

Nasser wasn't even wanting to do it and went under protest. Obviously, for such under-achievers and bitter failures as yourselves such an event would be the highlight of your grotty, turgid lives. For Nasser it was a minor inconvenience, still he had the decency to show people the proper way to perform the exercise and actually stimulate some muscle fibre ;)

*Yawn* - Irrelevent, Nasser got top 3 in 29 of 31 consecutive pro shows and is regarded as one of the best bodybuilders of all time.  Some minor bench "competition" that was simply a MuscleTech vs. Weider advertisement is of miniscule significance compared to shows he won like the NOC, Arnold Classic, various Grand Prix shows and others.

Speaking of mental breakdowns, I thing crying over 15 year old contest placings would be pretty high on the list. talk about being fixated.

But then that seems to be a common trait among the filthy arab types. Myopic, grudge holding barbarians that they are

Obviously Nasser's focus was on building muscle and not strength per se so I wouldn't expect any record breaking performance in this competition.

That being said even you Nasser nuthuggers have to admit that 225 X 15 is absolutely pathetic for a 300 lb. juicer.  In my high school there were a few naturals who could do that.

Did you even read any of the thread?  Nasser did not give a serious attempt at the bench "competition."  He was forced by the Weider camp to enter so in defiance he only did 15 reps.

Not true - Ronnie's back training involves lots of swinging too.

It's not a matter of taking my word for it - the video clip shows his reps as being very slow and controlled.  It's simple logic that if he was serious about the competition he would have been doing his reps like the rest of them.  I guess I overestimated when I assumed you were capable of that "simple logic"  :-\

I spotted the guy through a full workout in about 1995 when he was in Toronto doing an autograph signing at MuscleMag's (then) offices (I was an assistant editor). (Kovacs was hanging with us, doing legs.) Nasser did incline barbell presses and absolutely bit it with 315. Like, on the first or second rep. Now, sure, he was travelling and not at his regular gym, but the dude was about 310 or more and clearly on a tonne of gas. By default the guy should bang out several easy reps with such a weight.

The rest of his workout was no more impressive, to say the least.
