Title: Do high calf insertions definitionally imply poorly developed calves?
Post by: Deicide on March 25, 2009, 04:18:29 AM
Usually guys with low calf insertions seem to automatically have good ones; what has been your observation?

i think so...there are some exceptions, but in general this is the case...i myself have very high insertions so you can imagine how poor my calves are...  :-\ But its a genetic thing, since everyone in my family has the same case....

There are very few guys with high insertions and good calves...I dont know if im mistaken but Shawn Ray is a case maybe?

It can vary for different people. I have seen people with high insertions, yet the calf muscle belly is quite large and they can develop decent calves. Likewise i have seen people with low calf insertions whose calves look like tree stumps and have good size yet poor shape.

I'd say my calves are somewhat "high", yet they are ok size (44cm) and i have a fairly small ankle, which gives them a good taper, so to speak.

Of course - the shorter the muscle the higher the suckage.
Look at folks with long muscle bellies - look way better.

p.s.: Webcke's explanation is way better   :D

yes.

short muscle bellie means you will have less to 'fill out'.

so you cant say one with a full muscle bellie have more capacity in that muscle in terms of size.

I've got high insertions in my calves which probably explains why they are shit.  :-\

Just accepting reality mate, only thing we can do.

Yes, this is always the case imo. Impossible to develop much if insertions are high.

So.......you don't compete, don't think about them. Stop putting so much emphasis on genetics. Even people with the worst genetics can improve their physiques. I'm sure the average person doesn't give a shit that you have high lats.

I don't really. These days I just want a lean atheletic look and maybe improve on some lifts, not much else and I think ultimately attainable. :)
