Im lucky to get 4 hours of sleep a night but still try and hit the gym 4 times a week for about an hour. Any other insomniacs who still hit the gym? What are your secrets and how do you keep going?

I actually had a harder time when I was sleeping 8 or more hours a day.
Now I don't sleep more than 5-6 and I hit the gym 4-5 times a week.

i work nights and watch my 2 and a half year old baby boy during the day,i train 3 or 4 days a week plus cardio daily and its kickin my ass,i sleep from 7pm when my wife gets home till 10:45pm,i have to be at work by 12 midnight.thank god my son has been taking naps lately during the day,he naps for 3 hours plus and it feels like heaven getting that sleep in,thank you jesus i say when my baby boy dozes off to sleep :)

i really cant function without sleep. i could never go on 4 hours regularly. the worse my sleep, the more i need to push myself to go to the gym. i dont know how some guys do it, but im not one of them.

ive been working 12hr nightshift last 3 weeks, and still managing 3 to 4 days a week after work,, wouldnt be so bad but ive got to wait till 9.00 am for the gym to open, i finish work at 7.....
youve just got to make the best of it and stop bein a homo

Yup, yup! It's 2:43am here. Sleep for 4, awake for 2, then sleep for 3 more. Go figure.

theres plenty of time for sleep when your dead, everyone should sleep for a maximum of 6 hours.

I cant wait til my sleep study in June..hopefully they find out whats wrong with me. my schedule is a mess for the last 8 years and just keeps getting worse. always been a night person but this staying up sometimes til 6am is total bullshit! I can stand the sound of birds chirping when Im hitting the pillow :(
maybe its just how Im wired.. my dad was the same way.

Sounds rough, big man. Do you smoke pot? You could try having a good smoke and eating a huge meal with shitloads of carbs so it makes you crash straightaway, although I know you are used to stronger stuff than that.

when I take melatonin it knocks me out and then I am WIDE AWAKE 3 hours later

yup..i agree. went from taking one pill per night, to taking 2 when that didnt work... shortly after they started having the opposite effect & I quit taking em. sleep hasnt been the same since.

Started getting headaches at 12 years old that never went away. After that I slept between 0-4 hours a night. I'm 30 now, and in the past few years I've been managing to get up to 4 or 5 hours sleep most nights. Never miss workouts though.

i have been on night shift for a 2 years and on and off for like 10 years.
everytime i take something for sleep, it never fails i have to wake up early and then i am a complete zombie.
i get any where between 2-6 hours of sleep a day, yes there are some days i get more but there are days where i do not get any. i still try and make it to the gym 3-6 times a week.
usually if i get into a spell where i can not sleep i just set a time of day for sleep and try to lay down during those hours, when that time is up i just get up and get going and try to do everything that needs to be done. the thought is eventually you will break yourself and you will go to sleep during this scheduled time.
