Why don't Kingdom Hall's have windows? Also The Watchtower is simply a magazine published by The Jehovah's Witnesses. Correct Brother?

One morning a jehwit actually tried to put her foot in the way of the door while my wife slammed it in her face. She screamed out loud and my wife made me look through the glass to make sure she wasn't caught in our door. ;D

When the jw's come to my house, I always invite them in, and ask them to critique my posing routine.

As a former JW...I would have been honest with you and what you needed to work on. ;)

Do they usually send a noob JW w/a seasoned one?  I talked to 2 of them a couple summers ago and the young one didn't know anything about some of the scriptures I quoted.  I gave her my email and told her to contact me.  I think the seasoned JW put the kibash on that because I never heard from her.

BTW, they said they were using a "regular" bible that day.  Jehwit and/or SamoanIrishman, how do our bibles differ?

What they meant was "regular" as in most common version vs. King James or religion specific creation (like The Book of Mormon) They actually encourage all (new and seasoned) to go preaching...it is considered a vital part of their worship being that Jesus instructed all his followers to preach the word of God to all. They will always be sure to pair a seasoned person with a new person though. Not getting back to you was probably just a newbie error..lost paper, intimidated ect...who knows.

If you really need an expert on the religion and want to "study" I would call the Kingdom Hall and request a visit from a "Regular Pioneer" or an Elder (though they don't allow men to call on the house of a female alone so he'll probably bring his wife or ask a pioneer to take it up.

Thanks for all the info but I don't think I'll be contacting them to come to my house.  I have enjoyed talking to the few that I have been in contact w/though.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.  Do JW's have an extra book like the Book of Mormon?

Why are you a former JW?  DOn't answer anything you're not comfortable with.

No, they don't have a separate book.

It really had little to do with the religion and more to do with me. I wanted to move in with my GF at the time (big no,no), get tattoo's, smoke weed (I was 22 at the time) ect. There were very few things about the religion itself I disliked. The people were friendly, honest, and had good moral characture and integrity. I topics I did have issues with was-

- birthdays..you couldn't celebrate the birth of your child..a gift from God (per the bible) but you were allowed to celebrate your marriage anniversary.

- if you mess up when baptized you get "disfellowshipped" which mean no one in the religion is allowed to talk to you..even family. So with most, if you make a mistake, you lose your entire family & friend social structure until you are "reinstated" by the elders. Not a hard or long process but usually it takes at least a couple of months of you still showing up to the meetings (2 per week as you can't go to bookstudy that is usually held at a home) and show that you are serious about your repentance. You then write a letter stating your sorry and what you have learned from the discipline and the elders then make a "judgement call" on whether to allow you full rights again.

I do like that they give a monthly report on all contributions (money) that was recieved and what expenditures were incurred and before anything "extra" (like sending money to the other Halls in New Orleans when the hurricane hit) was spent, they would have a vote among the congregation to do so. Most religions never open up financials to their people.

Also, all Elders (usually a group of 5-8 men vs. 1 guy / priest / minister, that are like in a management position over the congregation) are not paid. It's 100% volunteer.

Seems kind of controlling....but maybe the "messing up" is messing up really badly in some way?  Adultery etc?

Yes major sins..adultry, fornication but not always are they disfellowshipping. Some are privately reproved (meaning they lose certain privilages) if they show repentance. Its when you admit to wrong doing (fornication with your gf) and your not sorry and continue.

They are not quick to just toss people out. It's those that choose not to follow the rules and don't care to modify their lifestyle to be in accordance with bible principles. Like me for example..it's not cause I had sex with my GF..it's cause we moved in and weren't married - consistant & continual disobedience.

I didn't know the Jehova's Witless accepted gays.

They do ...in a sense. While it is viewed as a gross sin, you can be gay and be a JW...you will just have to stay "clean" by not engaging in homosexual activity.

I knew a brother that was gay but really kept busy in the religion so as not to "fall into the trap" of a debauched lifestyle...kinda like Nuns basically.

Also..just to add. With every religion, there are those that are willing to share their beliefs and share their knowledge and then there are those that force, condem, vomit judgement on those and ultimately turn people off not only to that particular religion but to religion as a whole.

JehWit is the latter.

I know 100's of JW and while they are happy to share their knowledge and beliefs, they will NOT scream / vomit their ideals at you. It makes you come across as a zealot and can stumble someone..

JehWit... what do they teach about those who stumble others?? Just something to think about before posting harsh, judgmental comments.

I think there are these types in many belief systems...Christians included.

Trust me he's no Witness. Jehovah's Witnesses do not accept gay or homosexual. They say they accept gays just not "practicing" gays. And judging from his posts he is gay so???? He may be disfelowshiped or just on the fringe so to speak, but jewwit is the worst example of what a witness is suposed to be. Trust me I was once 1.

+100000000000000 ...I've been saying this all along. I'm glad I now have someone to back it up. I shut him down a while ago and he hasn't posted again on this topic so I think he get's the point that he can't talk BS about JW's without expecting me to call him out on his bullshit.

What kind of nitwit goes knocking on people's doors during football games?

I ran out of patience with them and any other door to door peddlers years ago.

When I first got my car, I used to wash it every week, this older black man with a walking stick used to come around and shoot the shit with me, come to find out he was a JW. He would give me pamphlets.  Now, if I visit home on a Sat or Sun, there will be a loud knock on the door...it's him.

Funny thing about JW's....they don't celebrate birthdays, but if you give them a present, they'll take it ;D.
