Title: Do you get star Struck?
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on April 06, 2009, 02:15:28 PM
I honestly don't get the big deal about celebrities.  People go fucking apeshit when they come within a mile of them.  I just don't get it.  They are people that act for a living. Big fucking deal.  You act, that's it.  No contribution to society then fucking acting.  It really makes me laugh when people camp out of wait in line for hours for a signature.  Someone taking a sharpie and writing their name.  That's it.  nothing else.  What's wrong with this world.

What kills me the most is that they have 20 award shows that celebrate themselves.  The vanity is unreal.  They are disgusting humans.

The story told by the author is his/her signature.  having them write inside "HI Chimps" with a sharpie is dumb. They don't know or care about you.  All they care about is pushing the book because their publisher that paid them to write forced them.

LOL! ;D

i will say though.. having a valid work of art like an album signed by the writer/musicians or book by it's writer does have some value...
however standing in line to have an actor sign a piece of paper is silly

Sometimes. The signature can add, sometimes significantly, to a book's value. Get a book signed by Nora Roberts, not so much. Get 1st ed. signed by Cormac McCarthy and you've probably got a $1,000 book. Someone like Thomas Pynchon , $100,000. JD Salinger's valuation would be up to Sotheby's.

/and i just get a simple signature.

He's the only person that wasn't a Hollywood actor like Tom Cruise, etc to meet so many famous people

Keith even sat next to Jonsey from police academy at a charity event.

so it would be wise to PM Keith and ask him about his perspective about this

I'm only vain to you guys.  not all the time on TV :-)

What kills me is when someone thinks they're special when they meet a celeb.  This one fag at my work has this blown up 4X4 foot photo of him and Celine Dionne.  Who cares, but he does because he's a schmoe who's highlight of his life was being at the same place as her and having a photo taken.  probably thinks he's special.

In Born Standing Up, Steve Martin relates a story of a fan swerving across three lanes while waving a beer can out the window and screaming, "Hey Steve!  I'm a wild and crazy guy!"  Bill Murray got out of town after Ghostbusters 2 was released on the grounds that he just couldn't face the constant bombardment of fans.  He went to study in Paris for a few years and got a masters in Philosophy I think.  Have a look at the "Is it him, I think it's him, Hey are you him?" bar scene in Lost in Translation.

I've been keeping quiet about this until now, but... I actually met William Shatner once.

Not entirely accurate.  ;)

Nope, ...don't get the least big star struck. When you've seen, met, worked with & partied with as many celebs as I have, it's no big deal. Truth be told, it's more of a pain in the tush, ...cause you always have to be sooo protective of them, and the unwanted attention can be bothersome. It's cool when you're going to dinner or a crowded club though... no waiting in line, never a need for reservations.  :D

I will admit to having gotten butterflies in the presence of Sophia Loren tho, ...she's just sooo awesome.
I think she charmed the living daylights out of every single person on that set. I can't recall ever seeing a crew so well behaved & professional. Her mere presence seemed to up everyone's game.   :)

I've met Arnold face-to-face, ...truth be told, ...it was a little skeery, ...almost creepy.
The years of steroid use have left their mark. It can be disguised on film, ....but up close there's no hiding it.

Even before interacting with celebs became an everyday thing for me,
I was never star stuck. not even with the first few celebs I met.

honestly wouldn't care.  I have seen celebs all over here.  Big deal, I treat them like normal people.  I could care less since they don't have a significant impact on my life.  Those people that cry and faint when they see Michael jackson or whatever are pathetic.  The "omg he changed my life with Thriller" can and should jump off a bridge into a dry river bed.  Those that held vigils at Princess Diana's accident scene or wherever are tards.

I don't know about that one. Alot of people who held vigils or who cried and left flowers in front of the palace weren't just star struck, ...I think alot of them felt guilty, and or frustrated and shared an affinity with her. It's a woman thing.

Not saying there weren't alot of star struck Princess Di fans, but her death evoked strong feelings for a lot of reasons.

I saw them coming out of a restaurant that we were going into.  They were walking to a big bus w/some of who I was told were Maria's relatives.  I only recognized Maria and Arnold.  Arnold and I nodded hello at each other (he probably does this to everyone).  I'm not lying when I say that I was not star struck.  They are just people.    I had VIP tickets at one Arnold Classic.  We had them mainly to have good seats for Fitness.  The tickets included a chance to meet Arnold and I think have your pic taken w/him.  I was not standing in line for that.

Maybe there is a star that I would be in shock if I saw them, but I can't think of one.  Keep in mind that some of these celebrities are just successful (in their field) theater majors.  Remember the theater majors in your college? (no offense to any theater majors!)

Theatre majors rarely achieve star status with anyone outside their field or industry  these days.
It's the film & TV actors who more often achieve stardom. Theatre actors tend to overact and can't compartamentalize or bring it down for film .

wes..... you get over it......I am sure there are a few celebs out there who are REGULAR PEOPLE TOO.......SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A LITTLE HANG UP BRO!!!!!!

not really, my only hang up is people that treat celebs like royalty. there are numerous magazines, tv shows, newspapers, etc solely dedicated to what celebs wear and eat. i find it ridiculous. paparazzi camping out to take a picture of someone kid??? or waiting for them to get off a plane??? these guys feed off this....because the general public feeds off these stupid mags and shit. there wouldnt be paparazzi if no one cared what boots jessica simpson wore to the dentist!

im sure there are TONS of celebs that are normal folk. there are alot of celebs that are fucking loons. my point is that i dont see a need to glorify what they do.....just because they are on my tv...or in the movie i want to watch. why would you want a autograph or a pic with a celebrity? i just dont get it.

watching celebs work on their craft...ie: watching a good movie....or watching jordan dunk from the 3 point line....thats what it is all about. getting all excited because you saw robert deniro buying coffee next to you is just dumb IN MY OPINION......

and thats all it is, my opinion

wes......

i apologize....... i have been a little abrassive regarding this topic.

i don't want to come across as though i think that celebs are above everyone else, my only point is that, when i see someone that is well known, i think that it is such a shock to see them in person, that i seem to get star stuck.

if i see any well known figure, i know i would have a feeling of surprise or amazement to see him or her in the flesh...... i find it hard to believe that someone would remain perfectly calm if they saw Nancy Reagan or Pete Rose or Arnold S. or even Joe Willie Namath, in a public setting. i don't live in LA, so it is rare for me to see well know celebs. i am only assuming that most people would feel the same way....... again, i apologize if i got to emotionally involved with this topic.......

i dont live in LA either, but they film alot where i am....i live about 5 miles from screen gem studios.

Dont get me wrong, it is cool to see john travolta or alec baldwin walking down the street.....but i just dont see the big deal.

i guess i might be a little jaded because im sick of of hearing about celebs all the time......so i might be abrasive as well!!! LOL

not really, my only hang up is people that treat celebs like royalty. there are numerous magazines, tv shows, newspapers, etc solely dedicated to what celebs wear and eat. i find it ridiculous. paparazzi camping out to take a picture of someone kid??? or waiting for them to get off a plane??? these guys feed off this....because the general public feeds off these stupid mags and shit. there wouldnt be paparazzi if no one cared what boots jessica simpson wore to the dentist!

There's also the reverse aspect of it as well... insecure, self conscious people who go out of their way to treat celebs like dirt, in order to prove to themselves and the world how laid back they are. Either way it sucks for the celeb.

The celebs don't feed off it. The agents, mgrs, publicists, photographers, magazines etc., feed off it.
The celebs are literally eaten alive by it! You have no idea how troublesome, disruptive, and dangerous it becomes.

watching celebs work on their craft...ie: watching a good movie....or watching jordan dunk from the 3 point line....thats what it is all about. getting all excited because you saw robert deniro buying coffee next to you is just dumb IN MY OPINION......

and thats all it is, my opinion

In total agreement with you there. It's stupid. Even stupider is when people you've known and dealt with for years, all of a sudden start to get stupid in your presence because you might have appeared in film or been on TV or because you know someone in person.  ::)  I had to stop renting DVD's for a while because of that.  :'(

yeah...ive seen that side as well. remember when steve bushemi was stabbed in the face at a bar? that wasnt the only incident while he and a few others were in town to do a movie. youre right, people would go out of the way to try to prove that (seemingly) they were more important/ better than the celebs.

i do think a good portion of celebs feed of it.....they get free shit all the time!! LOL they fucking love it!!!

i cant imagine a camera being jabbed in my face like that. total bullshit! and some say "hey, youre famous....its part of the lifestyle".....crap. paparazzi goes....3/4 of the problems are solved
