Title: Is it possible to maintain muscle while doing 3 hours of cardio a day?
Post by: bodybuilder1234 on April 06, 2009, 04:59:10 PM
My cardio regiment consists of medium to high intensity

Provided I consume enough protein and still go to the gym am I still able to maintain muscle mass while losing bodyfat?

If you have to do 3 hours of cardio per day, you clearly have no clue how to diet...

true but Kai's form of cardio was walking on a treadmill or some other form of low intensity cardio and the guy is on alot of gear I imagine.

I have a amateur bout coming up, so I am doing alot of sparring, roadwork etc

Keep hitting the weights, eat plenty of protein, etc. If you able to do 3 or more hours of cardio a day, more power to you. Just eat enough food for it.

I don't know, I think I would do the same !

as a natty I would hate to cut too much on the food, but it must be hard for the legs to recuperate

Not a chance. If anyone has to do 3 hours a day of cardio then their whole program was designed insufficiently.

technically i do 3 hours of cardio a day. 15 minute walk to the dining hall, 15 minute walk back, 6 meals a day, 3 hours. I've just found that you have to keep shoving in food every minute you can (right now im finishing off 2 hamburger patties).

I think it's possible.  I used to train for rugby league and rugby union on the same day.  Rugby union training went for at least 1.5 hours then I'd get driven (~35 mins) to rugby league training straight away which went for 1.5 to 2 hours.  I'd eat a piece of bread with honey on it between trainings.  It was hard to gain much muscle from my gym training, but I didn't lose any.  That gets you leean though for sure.

3 hours seems way too much specially if you go from medium to high intensity. Also, if you're a natural, eating tons of protein won't do shit as protien synthesis is limited. It's your carb intake which will determine if you lose muscle or not. If you run out of glycogen, you'll lose muscle. As simple as that.

Yep, you will lose muscle.

Even if you keep the protein high. And if you are training for a boxing match, hopefully you are still eating plently of carbs.
